12v power socket in boot

Featured Replies

I am looking to fit a 12v socket in the boot of my Octy for a small cool box/fridge to use when i am on my way down to Dorset in a coupleof weeks:thumbup:

I assume i can buy the socket from somewhere like Halfrauds, however i need to know where to pick up a supply for it from and a good place to mount/secure it in the boot.

Any suggestions??

Rob, take a look at the genuine part from Skoda with the flip top lid as fitted to elegance estate models. Ideal for the boot. Think I've got one in the garage if you want the numbers.

You could power from the existing one and feed the cables to the boot, might be a bit of a job but probably most professional.

You can give me the part numbers but it will depend how much it is and how much of a job it is to run it off the existing one. Only really got next weekend to get it fitted and have already got loads of jobs on:mad: , as we are off away the weekend after.

For the number of times it is going to be used i wanted to find a couple of wires in the boot somewhere to splice into to power a 12v socket.

Can't you make your existing power lead longer and plug in to the normal lighter socket....? (as it's not going to be used often)...

I could do this, however i will probably also have my Sat Nav and maybe an ipod charger to plug in too :o

If i was to use the front 12v socket to get a supply from what trim do i need to remove and how hard is it to remove said trim????

Buy a Superb, they have one as standard!

Sorry!

Just had a quick look in the car.

I looks like if you pull the rear ashtray/cupholder out there are two screws holding the handbrake fascia/cover and it would seem as though the front of this fascia/cover just pulls off.

Does this sound about right???

If it is then i am going to wire one off the existing front 12v socket and run the cable to the boot as previously suggested. Can anyone confirm what i have said about gaining access to the cabling feeding the front 12v socket please?

Not done anything like that on an Octy Rob but did it on SWMBO's Fabia without issue.

I would have thought remove the back seat and see if the cable would run under the carpet and to the back of the car. Cut the whole in the side trim near the rear lights or something.

PM me if I forget to get you the numbers.

Rob

Sorry for the delay mate, kept forgeting to get the part out of the garage.

there is a supply you car pick up from the wiring loom that goes to the rear lights.

but will it allow you to draw enough current to power a fridge and the lights, very doughtful.

er yes!! or you could take it off the trailer loom, obvioulsly if sombody were to do this they would wire up a fuse to protect the wiring

Isn't the wiring loom in the saloon the same as in the estate? And if it is, and since the estate has a 12v socket in the boot (doesn't it  ), wouldn't it be possible to pick up from there?

i dont know this for ceratin but i expect, if you loom behind the platic trims in the boot there may be a connector somwehere which is for this purpose, but in most models it just isn't connected to anything..

the 6n2 polo had got one in the boot, but the models which dont have the socket still are wired up for underneath

Done it this afternoon.:)

Bought myself a 12v extension lead with a socket on the end.

Chopped off the plug and hardwired it into the existing socket at the front of the car. Ran the cable under the carpet and into the boot.

I fixed the socket to the basket/cargo net type thing on the right of the boot with some tyraps.

Can only see the last few inches of the cable.

All for the sum of

One thing i would like to know though is what is the fuse rating of the cigarette lighter circuit????

iirc it's a 15amp fuse which it shares with the radio
