7 days from now I wil be the proud owner of a Skoda Octavia 2.0 TDI Elegance. Including danish VAT and cartax it will 'only' cost

Sounds fairly normal. Congratulations on your choice of car. You won't be disappointed

whaaaaaat is that £30,000 as in 30,000 pounds. my god

whaaaaaat is that

About £5.

The Danes pay huge taxes on cars (including personal imports). Lots of them don't own cars for that very reason. I guess their government feels that's achieved an objective.

Most of the taxis are E class Mercs though - shows how they value the longevity of them.

At that sort of price, they must be using the Haynes manual produced in Cuba!

Taxes on cars in Denmark:

180% special car tax.

25% VAT.

10.000

I think then, your best bet is to cancel the "Octy" and become a taxi driver!

Personal Tax 56% ,,,, Special Car Tax 180% ,,,,,,, Strewth!!!!

The high taxes pay for health, education and supporting the less fortunated.

I got 5 kids and the education alone is eating a lot of my tax ;)

The high cartax pays for the so-so roads and bridges exept The Great Belt Bridge http://www.storebaelt.dk/.

There are many people who say that we are paying about 50% or more in tax in denmark. But I am earning 25000 dkr before tax and get 15000 after tax. Thats 40%. You are allowed to deduct expenses before you calculate your tax.

The money goes as said to run probably the equal society in the world. Free healtcare and education incl. universitys. You even receive about 350 pound monthly as a student form the state. Wether you agree or not with this social approach to society, we do have a quite harmonic state here.

And yes the car prices are way too high here. I guess it will never change? as we had a liberal governement for the last 5 years here.

I thought Denmark was very nice when I went there.

And they have the best speedway riders :D

It has nothing to do with the liberal goverment at the moment. The 180% cartax is decades old!

Car taxes are sick, but as described you can deduct a lot of your expenses when taking a car loan in the bank. A lot of car loving people from Copenhagen moves to Malm

Great things about living in Denmark is our fine women, our women and our women.

And your speed reduction programme......
