Fabia rear fog light

Featured Replies

Greetings from a new member. I've recently bought a 1.9TDi Fabia estate.

Can anyone point me at a wiring diagram or tell me how easy it is to wire up the nearside rear fog light, it's all there but not functioning.

Thanks in advance, nice site.

The "Skoda Technical" FAQ on this site has something about wiring the N/S fog light on the Octavia (hatch and estate). I imagine the Fabia would be similar, but you might have to do a bit of detective work to figure out the right connectors.

Welcome to Briskoda!

As KLB said there's a detailed description on how to connect up the left hand rear fog lamp for the Octavia Hatch and estate.

Even if the lamp arrangment is different the basic principles are the same; as long as you have all the bits you need i.e. tools etc it won't take long. Although Dennis (DGW) will probably disagree with me on this.

The only contentious point is getting hold of the appropriate terminal that connects the new wire you've run into the wire connector block.

If your lucky enough to have a friendly dealer they'll possible just give you an old connector block and you can remove the required terminal. That's how I got mine but it's possible to buy them (apparently from some where in Cambridgeshire )

Anyway check out the FAQ.

Cheers.

Adrian.

With the right wire terminal - a junior power timer terminal (female) - its a doddle since it pushes into the wiring block and locks into place. If not, its a bit more fiddly. Once you have taken the covers off both rear light clusters the wiring mod should be obvious.

If you look in Yellow Pages you should be able to track down an Auto Electrical Specialist who stocks the terminals. :D

You have exceptionally good taste..

Let me know how you get on with your'e fog light. I'll have a look at the wiring over the weekend if i get a chance.

Thanks for all the help folks, ran the wire as directed and now both my eyes are dazzled.

Well done! Did you need to cut a hole in the light cluster?

Another satisfied customer! :D

Just out of interest, how long did it take you?

Took 25 mins to do (including a short prayer to the God of warranty) and did not require any cutting as the only thing missing was the feed.

The elusive junior power timer terminal (female) is in the Skoda parts catalogue (ETKA). The part number is (or was back in the year 2000) [b:fe366e2589]000 979 225[/b:fe366e2589]. They come in a pack of 5 and are described as 1 set of single wires each with 2 contacts.

Check before you order in case I've got it wrong!

Well connected up my nearside fog lamp today and was surprised how easy it was to do.

I didnt use the part suggested by Denis, but was able to use a small female connector from some old speaker cable. It fitted perfectly in the plug!

The hardest part was removing the trim to route in the new cable.

Took about 40 mins max.

Greetings all, thanks for the help you all gave. I had another look at the job I had done to take notes in case it helped anyone in the future. Looking from the rear. The o'side rear cluster loom has six wires in. The bottom one (grey/white) is the fog one. On the n/side this is missing. The loom actually passes the n/side cluster on its way to the other side, and it is possible to pick it up under the lamp, splice in a feed and plug it straight in to the plug via an appropriate connector, even easier than running a wire back, and how I am now configured.

I was lucky and had enough slack in the loom to be able to work with the trim in place, take it off and it's a doddle.

Hope that helps, and finally, the offside tail bulb blew on the way in to work this morning (only two months old), and introduced me to the warning tone, a rare early morning work up for the sphincter muscle !!

Maybe you can add (or get one of the Administrators to do it  ) your Fabia specific notes to the "How To Connect Up The Left Hand Rear For Lamp" FAQ; it's in the FAQ.

Cheers.

Adrian.

It was too tricky for me to access the loom running from the o/s to the n/s, but thats probably because mines a hatch not an estate. The loom routing must be slightly different.

I know what you mean about the warning tone. It certainly wakes you up!!

Running the wire from one side to the other of my Octavia Estate was the most time-consuming part of the operation too. I wanted the wire to be out of sight and so followed the path of the existing wiring loom which goes through a barely accessible box section.

Warning tone? Does the Fabia have a bulb out warning? Nice touch! What about the Octavia , has it got this feature?

Yes, a "beep" is heard together with a warning light on the instrument panel.

This also applies to low fuel, low oil, low washer fluid, door open, boot open etc etc. Some only apply to the Elegance version though.

Fabia TDI

That shows the Fabia is a newer design than the Octavia. I get the low fuel warning and the one for door open (but only when lights on) , also the seatbelt warning. Not heard any of the others , maybe i havent let my oil or washer fluid get that far down!!!

As I have mentioned elsewhere, my seatbelt warning light illuminates as soon as I turn the ignition switch to the position before start, and is then accompanied by 5 loud Bongs, but goes out as soon as the engine is started regardless of whether I am wearing a seatbelt or not. Is this the same for other 2002 Octavia Elegance owners? :?
