The new Dodge Caliber - thoughts?

Featured Replies

I had one of these behind me in traffic the other day. It is one ugly car, but cool ugly rather than tacky ugly.

They are deffiantly a bit diffrent. Who do you think is going to buy them? Read more here.

Roomster competition?

i said it before and i'll say it again......

"pass the sick bag!"

It's an astra with the front off of an american truck :thumbdwn:

From the outside I think they look very good , the prices are very keen , and the 2.0tdi is a great engine.

Unfortunately the interior isn't brilliant and they apparently don't drive all that well.

Oh , and the gearing is lower than in the octavia tdi so you get good accelleration but a lower top speed and economy

I agree with Alex - would still like to see one in the flesh - I wonder how well screwed together the interior is. Its bloody cheap, there must be some compromise somewhere.

But when you think the list price of my Corsa is well over £12k, something like this seems very reasonable indeed.

I quite like the scared toys advert, but find the car too convoluted...

I had a look at one the other day - they sure are wierd looking cars... I wouldn't buy one and i like wierd things :D

Very cheap plastics.

I scratched one of the storage compartments with my fingernail by accident.

VW Tdi Engine, Japanese gearbox (MAN - Auto is GM), GM Chassis, well priced.

Looks good IMHO and reasonably nippy

Now if they'd just put a European interior into it I'd have one

Went for a test drive back in June and the dealership had signs and staff but no cars

I like the look of it, but as said before, I would only have the 2.0l Tdi, and the quality of the plastics is terrible. I really wanted to like it when I saw one at the motor show, but the tic tac box plastics really put me off.

Yup. I think they've really missed an opportunity here.

It's *very* competitively priced , starting well under 12 grand and competing directly with Golf and Focus sized cars.

It's so well priced that they could add 500 quid or even a grand onto the price and use that to improve the quality of the interior without significantly affecting the value for money aspect.

I think they'd sell a lot more cars that way.

I think it's quite interesting, because it is different, doesn't look that bad, and is undeniably good value.

I expect the residuals will be rubbish, though - they were for the Chrysler Neon which had a similar combination of cheap price and poor quality IMHO.

I've recently come back from my hols in Florida, and the Caliber just sort of blends in out there as so many Yank cars look similar(ish).

Over here they really stand out from the masses of Euroboxes so may become a bit of a cult car. As MarkyMark says above though, I would expect the resale to be poor and the availability of parts may be a bit of a worry, especially once the warranty runs out.

Sorry, but I just had to misquote!

worst. misquote. ever.

:P

Hehe, maybe it wasn't a misquote. The car is big, fat, ugly, of poor quality.. american :D

Hideous. Probably drives like crap as well.

I had a go in one the other day....noisy, incrediably tacky cheap plastics, rattles here and there, rolls around a bit, and not that strong in terms of acceleration......typical chrysler. Would never buy one. My dad has several chrysler-made vehicles back at home in Canada.....they all died in various ways.

Pete

load of american rubbish i think:thumbdwn: :thumbdwn: , never gonna suit our kind of roads.

Erm no, i'd buy a skoda before i bought one of them...

Oh hang on :)
