Engine management light on dashboard

Featured Replies

The ecu light has suddenly come on and will not go off.

i noticed the other morning that the car was about to stall when i stopped.

Today, the car started without any problems, but immediately it started running rough as though it was not firing on all cylinders, the light is on permanently.

The car only does local journeys, is y reg and low mileage.

Any help will be really appreciated, thanks.

Is it a petrol? Might be a failed spark plug? Best off finding someone who will scan your ECU with vag com to diagnose the issue. With the engine light on, a fault code should be logged. :)

i wouldn't drive it if it is misfiring badly as the catalyst will get damaged by the unburnt fuel

have taken the car for a good run, it is petrol, came back and the light is still on.

revved the car and kept it at about 3000revs, the engine was really hot and the light has gone out, it is certainly running better, is this cured ??

have just been out and started the car from cold, first time start, ran really rough then stalled, funny thing is there is no light (ECU) on now.

Really puzzled as to what is going on

hi, i took the car out for a good run this morning, got back home, kept the revs at around 3000, got the engine really hot and the light has gone out.

i let the engine go cold, went out, turned ignition on and there was no light, started without problems ran roughly and then stalled, i have never had this before, what is happening ??

main dealer job ?????

Gotta be a dodgy HT lead or cacked-up Plug assuming fuelling and air are ok.

Wont be a HT lead if its a 1.4 MPi, could be a throttle valve.

But your really wasting your time, get the fault codes read off.

Has the temperature gauge been giving erratic readings? The fuelling will be incorrect if the ECU is getting the wrong coolant temperature signal.

Sorry for jumping into your post but I have had a similar problem to you.

I have a 2002 1.4 silverline 8v. The engine management light came on a few weeks back. I took it to the dealer who said it was the lamda sensor.

I paid £170 to have this repaired. Next day the light came back on.

Again I took it back and the dealer said it was the cam shaft sensor, he indicated that this could be a sign that the computer was "dodgy".

He agreed to get the cam sensor changed foc. Today I picked it up, after a short run I went to start it and all the power failed, then after a short rest I tried again and the power came back, with the ecu light back.

Anyone have any ideas? Is it the computer or am I being taken for a mug??

I'd like to know what the fault code was.

'My car has got a noise at 50 mph does yours do that?'

Without fault codes and accurate descriptions and circumanstances the solution to your cars' problem can only be guessed at.

All three times that the thing was plugged in it showed lamda sensor fault and camshaft sensor fault x 2 (according to garage).
