vRS Questions

(Moved from My Maintenance forum! - computers, huh?!) :bdaysmile

Looking into possibly joining the ranks of vRS owners and love the great combination of performance and practicality it offers. However, I have a few questions:

1. How much trouble is the low ride height / deep front spoiler when it comes to speed humps, bumpy carparks, curbs etc.?

2. What grade fuel do you use 95 (normal) or 97+ (super) unleaded? - Skoda info seems a bit ambiguous on this (i.e. 95 but 97 recommended)

3. Is there much difference (if any) in ride and handling between the vRS hatch and estate?

Any info much appreciated.

radman

1) For me, no trouble at all

2) 95, 97 or 98 (Optimax) depending on where i am, what i'm doing and how much spare cash i have when i fill up

3) No idea whatsoever, haven't driven an estate, and don't plan to in the near future...I'm sure someone out there has driven both

Welcome to Briskoda

1, No problem (especially after a lowered Impreza!)

2, Optimax all the time.

3, As above. No idea and no desire!

Steve

Ive only had mine a month, and have scuffed the underside of the front bumper on a kerb in a car park, it is quite low and the kerb was higher than average. I just went too far forward not being used to the car. Cant see the scuff tho as uts underneath ;)

I use super or similar. Doesent it say to user super gasoine on the sticker inside the filler cap?

I drove an estate when I was looking. Didnt notice much difference other than the blind over the boot rattles a lot more. May not have been in properly tho.

Hi and Welcome!

1) no problems with speed bumps unless loaded to the gunnels....but may be that's because my Jetex cat back sits a little lower.

2) 97RON but can run of 95RON....generally I use Optimax and have by using BP Ulitimate. I find Optimax give a smoother and better response....BP Ultimate is more consistant than Optimax and better than the previosu BP SUL.

3)Don't know.....estate rides on 16'' alloys and I guess there's more weight at the rear(??)....so perhaps is a little better on ride but not as good on handling??

Cheers.

Adrian.

Don't forget, It's only the "Real" vRS that uses unleaded. The other uses diesel :mischievo :naughty: :moon:

Subtly put Dave ;)

1. No problem at all for me and mine is slightly lower than standard. Got a few scuffs underneath like Paul but that's it.

2. Normally SUL/Ultimate/Optimax for me, but it runs fine on whatever I bung in (oh, apart from the 92 RON eh Manny?).

3. Dunno never tried it. Can't imagine it'd be that much different, although it is less rigid at the rear. The 16" wheels will make it more comfy, with less direct handling due to the sidewall flex.

hi and welcome radman

I'm a recent convert with 2000 miles on a new Vrs estate

1. so far the only thing i've noticed is that you have to watch it on car park kerbs - some are a bit high and the spoiler will not always go over them when you park at the front of a space - no problem just remember to park a bit further back

2.just use standard 95 ron with no problems (from Tesco for the clubacrd points!!) will try 98ron just to see but 95 will have to the normal one.

3. test drove both and decided on the estate.Mainly because the estate was far more conveniant for my own work and leisure needs and didnt think there was much in the ride and handling.Unless .1 second 0-60 and 1 mph matter!!

Thanks for the responses. Very useful to be able to ask real life owners about their experiences.

The biggest question of course is which colour? Hmmm....there's such a rich choice...of four.

I went for the black magic

it looks great when clean but its a sod to keep clean especially this weather and I do a high mileage.

But if I had to choose again i'd still get a black one.

Welcome to Briskoda, radman, and good luck with that choice (or lack thereof) which taxes vRS owners so much... rolleyes.gif

1) Generally no problem, have scuffed the front twice in 4mths (once last week) in an NCP car park (may have came down ramp too quick, compressing springs). Other time was in B&Q car park, high kerbs :(. Haven't noticed any damage though :)

2) I use BP unleaded (95 Ron) EXCLUSIVELY since my visit to Jabba :D. Mike there recommended this as better than supermarket stuff (there was also a [seperate] rumour that this is now 97 Ron since BP Ultimate has come in). It really does seem to be 'smoother' than the ASDA stuff I put in previously, and in Coventry, where I work, I get it for 73.9p/ltr (Asda was 73.7p, so nothing in it). Collecting the Nectar points too (to what end I'm unsure ;)).

3) Can't talk about ride between my Octy vRS hatch and an estate but I'm in agreement on the 'sidewall flex' of the 16's (Estate) offer less accuracy and remembering that the old Volvo T5 Estate were supposed to handle better due to better aerodynamics and increased weight over rear axle (but I'n no expert, just putting it out there for discussion :D).

Welcome

1) my vRS being another 1.5" lower than standard, have heard the underside front scrap a couple of times, no visible damage, but you must watch kerbs in car parks, higher ones will make contact with the bottom of the front bumper if you pull into the space a bit to far.

2) a mix of all juice types, but not cheapo supermarket splodge...

3) someone mentioned 16" wheels on the estate, so guess a little more give in the tyre sidewalls, any 16" wheeled saloon vRS drivers might be able to tell how the compare to the bigger rims

And finally to assist with colour choice, feeld free to try my completely objective colour choice determinator:

1) every other car on the roads these days is silver - NO

2) black is a pain to clean without showing up polish mark sratches over the long term - NO

3) my last car was red - NO

4) yellow - that'll be the one to go for!!!!!

Cheers

Lee
