Shell Helix Diesel Ultra - Fabia VRS

Featured Replies

Is it safe to use Shell Helix Diesel Ultra 5W-40 VW 505.00 oil in my Fabia VRS ? The sticker under the bonnet says: "SkodaAuto recommends Shell Helix" - but I thought the correct grade of oil for PD engines was VW 505.01

Can anyone advise please?

No you shouldn't use 505.00. There a special Shell Helix Diesel Ultra VW505.01 although i couldn't find it in my local shell garage....

Thanks. I thought I'd bought the wrong stuff, even though my local Shell garage assured me it was the correct oil.

what part of the sw are you ....... could give you an address

for some millers vrs spec oil ...... like wot I use :)

I was in a main dealer (no names) and asked to see the oil they use as top-up/service. It was Helix Diesel Ultra 5/40 505.00 Seems Shell garages all happily stock this but the 505.01 spec oil is as rare as rocking horse doo-dah.

The best thing you can do is buy a guaranteed 505.01 oil for top-up (there is a thread on the recommended ones) and check with your dealer/garage when it comes to service time.

Skoda has a deal with Shell (stated on their website) to use their lubricants but it does seem odd that as a consumer you can't actually buy them.

If you've bought the normal Diesel Helix Ultra then you have bought the wrong one! There's another one for VW505.01.... never seen it though....

I topped up a 2.0 TDI Octy II with Mobil 1 5-50w rally oil, I was suured by a taxi driver that it was the right one? have I just screwed up?

Does it say it meets VW505.01 on the bottle? It should do....

The (New) Octavia Owners Manual specifies the following VW specification oils for diesel engines:

Fixed service intervals

VW 507 01 - only for engines without diesel particle filter

VW 505 00 - only for engines with diesel particle filter

Flexible service intervals

VW 506 01 - only for engines without diesel particle filter

VW 507 00

If the vehicle is equipped with a diesel particle filter this will be indicated by the code 7GG on the vehicle data sticker located on the floor of the luggage compartment and also inside the front cover of the Service Schedule booklet.

Approved MB 229.3 ; Porshe! just seen the Porshe bit, they dont make TDI's should I get an oil flush imediatly, done a a couple of 1000 kms since I did it, I am really worried now. Help Neily03

The problem is when i showed the manual to the garage they did not understand the codes, then this guy gave me the advice, have i stuffed it up DGW?

MOved this over the the Octavia section as I think it is better

I think I'm going round the bend. I've just been in touch with SkodaAuto Customer Service Centre in Wallington, Surrey and they say the correct oil for the Fabia VRS TDI PD 130 96Kw engine is either VAG spec. 505.00 or 505.01. Both are fine.

I've tried getting some sense out of Shell, but they are a waste of time !

As a matter of interest, SkodaAuto reckon the correct oil of my wife's Fabia 1.9 TDI 74Kw engine is VAG 505.01 - 505.00 should not be used.

Talk about confusion !

N.B.Pete - I'm in Nailsworth, Gloucestershire.

The manual for my vRS says to use VW505.01 only. Go to halfords and buy an oil that meets VW505.01, thats what i did.

Indeed - should be as simple as that!

I use Castrol Edge from halfords. Its VW505.01 i put it in my Seat Ibiza PD100. (Waiting for Black-Magic Furby Vrs)

GSF sell Quantum PD which is 505.01. I always thought quantum is what VW put in their engines. Theres Quantum longlife as well which is 506.01 I think.

Have now confirmed beyond all doubt that the correct Shell oil for the Fabia vRS is SHELL HELIX DIESEL PLUS VA 5W-40 VW 505.01

We all knew that anyway, the stuff is like gold dust though so its easier to get something else that meets VW505.01. ;)

You can obtain this gold dust equivalent from Emo Oils tel: 0800 685685 - £8.81 per litre inc. VAT. Only snag is you need to buy a min. of 12 litres.

I have no more to say on this topic.

Can anybody tell me what these VW codes actually mean. I asked my dealer to use Synthetic oil when it was serviced (thinking this would help my engine and reduce wear) and they used Castrol SLX. 504 00, 507 00. The handbook recommend 505 01, 505 00. Though for flexible servicing VW 506 01, 506 00. I assume 507 is better than 505 and 506?

What do these numbers mean? Why can something as simple oil cause so many problems?

Forgot to say it's a Fabia Vrs Diesel.

Thanks

Andy

I don't understand how people have so much trouble with this! Skoda say for the Fabia vRS use oil that meets VW505.01 only. It really is that simple....

OK, sorry for appearing thick I just want to clarify this. The oil that has been fitted by the dealer is Castrol SLX 504 00, 507 00. It does not have VW505.01 on the bottle. So I assume that this is the wrong oil then? Or does 507 00 exceed 505.01?

Thanks

Andy

Indeed - should be as simple as that!

VW dealers sell 505.01 in 5 litre containers.

Hi

Simple really, 505.01 is the recommended PD (or unit injector engines) oil for the Fabia VRS, so if the container does not specify that the oil meets this spec, then it should not be in the sump. Try Opie oils for a nice selection. I am running Titan Supersyn Plus at the moment which does meet the spec.
