new member with some fabia rs questions

Featured Replies

hi everyone i am interested in getting a new car and i was thinking about getting a clio sport 172 or 182, whoever my brother has the vw golf gtpdi 150 and i am well ipmressed with the torque & power on his car, so i am swaying towards getting a car powered with vw pdi engine.

The golf is a no no as its out of my price range, so that leaves the a seat ibiza pdi, or the fabia rs. Which is better equipped and more reliable?

Welcome to briskoda chas,

Firstly, the difference between the 130 and 150 PD engines are not as much as you think.

The main difference between the vRS and Ibiza 130 tdi sport are mainly cost, at

I know it's stating the obvious, but try before you buy. I had a new Clio as a hire car a few months ago and took an instant dislike to it. Whatever I did I couldn't find a comfortable sitting position.

I also had to RTFM to work how to get the thing into reverse. There's a ring around the outside of the lever that you lift. Apparently this isn't uncommon but I'd never seen it before. This was deeply embarrassing when meeting a car in a narrow street and it should have been easier for me to reverse than the other driver. This was the nearest I've ever come to a road rage incident... :hbomb:

I have owned a clio 172 Mk2 the latest version and it was OK but the Fabia was more fun. However the 182 will do 0-60 in around 6 - 6.5 seconds so it's not slow. Having sung it's praises the clio is built in france and thus is the ***** in it's armour. It rattles, had inherant exhaust issues and a few other things to boot. The Fabia when I test drove it felt more solid and more fun to drive overall.

If you are interested in the clio still you can have a look at a site I help out on Cliosport. I would think carefully though, also you can't directly compare the 2 engines as one is a diesel and the other petrol with different characteristics.

Also renault is stopping production on the 172 soon and you will only be able to get the 182.

Rooboy BTW you won't beat a 182 in a straight line mate they are to quick, one of the guys on the forum I help out on has a slightly modded Clio cup (clio 172 stipped out with just a modded Airfilter, chip) and this does 1/4 miles in 14.1 seconds. After saying all this the clio is in a high state of tune and there is not much else you can do to the engine to get anymore out of it.

A chipped fabia vs a standard 172/182 will be close, it also still works out cheaper that way too was all i was saying.

Mmm I would like to test this theory as I know quiet a few standard 172's. Anyone know any chipped 180bhp Fabia's that would be willing to test this theory ?
