My Visit to JKM

Featured Replies

I just thought I would post a quick review about my visit to JKM in Portsmouth on Friday.

I got a call from another friendly Briskodian about prices on Milltek Systems for the Mk2 Octavia vRS from JKM. A quick phone call to Kate at JKM confirmed the price for the Milltek including fitting and so out came captain plastic and a Cat back system was ordered. 5 days from ordering the system had arrived from Milltek and as I was working down south that week and needed to be in Southampton on Friday night .... a plan came together.

Friday I got away from work and headed over to JKM, easy enough to find on the Airport industrial estate but parking can be a bit tight. Went into the reception where I met Kate and handed over the keys to the Octy and got a much needed coffee, made by one of the young 'uns in the workshop. I had a little nosey round the workshop from the outside and it was modern and well appointed and there where plenty of staff on hand.

Bang on 4pm my Octy went onto the Ramps and 40 mins or so later there was a "pleasing" burble coming from the workshop. I saw the Octy go out on road test and was instantly happy with the sound, not loud just "Throaty". The car came back and I had a chat with one of the workshop guys (not Keith, sorry can't remember your name :) ) and he mentioned it was a nice car and what the possibilties would be for further modding. They took the old system off without cutting it, then stripped it and packed it in the Milltek bubble wrap and popped it into the boot of the Octy for me (cheers blokes).

I had a quick chat to Kate and talked about prices for the cat and downpipe for the future, interupting her from trying to source an exhaust stud for a 1.8T Ibiza that had stripped.

They are a friendly and perhaps more importantly, a knowledgable bunch of people at JKM, I was made welcome, and Tea and Coffee flowed like water, and it was good to see the level of engineering expertise, as in fabricating brackets for the Ibiza because the owner had bought it second hand and it was possibly the wrong year, it as going to fit, but they had to do some cutting, welding and fabricating.

Impressions;

JKM: Great, genuinely enthusiastic, friendly and with good facilities. looks like the South has got what Makefish was asking for a few weeks ago. My only criticism is the waiting area, 2 seats in reception looking onto the front desk, but for the price and service I got I really am being petty.

Milltek: Niiiiiice, fantastic quality, sound is just what I wanted and looks close to stock, everything fitted / lined up perfectly and I dropped the rear seats for the 240 miles trip home and had the stereo off much of the way. Roll on downpipe and Cat time  IThe bum dyno says it's responding quicker as well as spinning up quicker, which is a good thing.

I am not going to quote the price I paid, as JKM (as of yet) are not Briskoda Partners, but I am really happy, and as a customer, thats what I need to be :)

Glad to here that all has gone well for you. As you say, I think we may have the tuning/engineering source on the South Coast that we had all been craving for.

I also understand that plans are in place for JKM to become a partner to the forum and I wish them well

I find them very easy going and willing to help. They want our business as they realise it is important in the future of their company unlike some others I could mention.

Interested to know how they got the old tubes off without cutting.

Hi Guys,

Glad you are all pleased.

A quick point - The exhaust had to be cut near the rear axle to get the exhaust off, but because I cut it so clean it looks like a factory joint.

The old sleve that you have is for joining the cat to the rest of the system. Milltek supply all new clamps and sleeves with the new system.

Enjoy the cars guys

I know, muppetry on my part, it is a bloody neat cut though :-) And I wanted something to try the new welder out on.

Just come back from another blast over to nottingham and back, had to go and see my mate Wayne at JAC Exhausts and the car is sounding good and running well
