Fabia ARB bushes...

Featured Replies

Ok, so I was driving SWMBO's Fabia this evening and a bit of a knocking noise has developed from the front end when traversing bumps.:(

I've had a (very) quick look underneath and I see that the collar has split away from the ARB bush as in the photos posted by Lummox in this thread:

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/fabia/rattle-front-my-fabia/50362/?highlight=arb+bushes

So my question is what's involved in replacing the bushes/bar is it an easy enough job ?

Am I correct in thinking that the bushes come complete with the anti roll bar and that there may now be a modified part available ?

It's a 52 Skoda Fabia 1.9Tdi Elegance Estate, what's the likely cost of the replacement parts and (I'm possibly pushing my luck & asking a bit much here but hey, well nothing ventured etc ...) the modified part number :o ?

Thanks in advance ! :)

Well, having now done the job and to answer my own questions in case it helps anybody else ...

what's involved in replacing the bushes/bar is it an easy enough job

Yes, pretty much so, it took me just over one hour.

I followed these instructions found elsewhere on the forum:

"Put car on ramps. With jacks and blocks under sides lift weight off front wheels, remove wheels.

Remove bottom of arb links. Needs a rare 16mm spanner as socket no use and 17mm on flats of ball joint.

Remove 4 bolts holding steering rack to cast aluminium subframe

Remove 4 large and 4 small bolts holding subframe to body.

Subframe will drop about 3 inches.

Undo 4 bolts holding rubber bushes of arb

Rotate arb 180 degrees and slide it out under the rack one side. Pull this end back and slide other side out.

Reverse to install new arb. "

Am I correct in thinking that the bushes come complete with the anti roll bar and that there may now be a modified part available ?

Yes see photos below.

£59.62p inc VAT. Part No. 6Q0411303AD for my car.

The photo below shows my old roll bar (top) with the plastic collar which has broken away and which has moved to the right allowing lateral movement of the bar in the bushes which causes the bar to come into contact with and knock against the vehicle subframe.

The bar at the bottom is the new (modified) roll bar with a welded metal collar.

The photo below shows the old & new bars with the bushes in place where you can see because of the broken collar on the old bar the collar is too far to the right of where it should be meaning the bar can move laterally in it's bushes.

Hope this helps anyone else contemplating doing this job.

good work, glad you got it sorted.:)
