My Stage 2 LAN thingy bob has arrived. Have inspected and all is well other than the support bracket for the MAS is grey rather than pretty red :weeping:

Where did you get your filter from? and how much did it cost? I think i'm in need of replacing mine but not sure what one to go for :slant:

I've tried a few now.

Green Filter - Location:Engine Bay, no heat shield, nice sound, cheapest. circa 50 lots of places.

Neuspeed - Location Engine Bay, partial heat shield, good induction growl, good flow. Needs mods to prevent heat entering but allow cold to flow in, easy if slighlty DIY minded), cira 135+vat @ awesome gti.

Carbino - Cold air feed in bumper space. Bugger to fit with xenons (suspect okay in normal Rs.) Great sound, good flow. No real mods needed unless you have stupid xenons. Again via Awesome Gti

Of all of them, the carbino one looks the best of the ones I have had; well it is black carbon fibre. It is a bugger to fit with xenons, but I reckon it would be fine in a normal RS, will have pics soon. The novel fitting of this to the maf makes use of a rubber boot, this in theory allows the maf house to move indepentandly of the filter pipe, I've added some insulation tape to prevent ingress and this seems to work very well. It is physcially impossible for the filter tube to come away from MAF as neither maf hose or engine bay move enough. It's design is okay and should not stress the securring bolt in the bay, but I did add flexing a tape barrier in case. It can be heard but is not intrusive to the cabin, except at certian times, which is of course when you want it ;) A sort of whistle/jet sound.

The neuspeed one needs a sheet of thermal insulation over the top and base ( about 20GBp) to prevent heat entering the airflow, this then needs some pipes to feed the cold air in. I modified the front panel with 2x50mm drian connectors from B&Q anda section of linking pipe. After 4 hours the filter was stone cold...air force on that front grill @ 60mph drives air in very well. It has a loud growl to it.

The green is just hanging in the bay, although has a great sound.

The other options are the ABD and Dynatwist, have not tried these so cannot comment, both fit well, although some issues are occuring with the ABD mounts. This should be resolved soon.

/Edit: if your on a stock exhaust the real benefits of increased flow such as these filters might not be apprant (as it was explained to me) as such using the stock airbox anda drop in panel filter might yield equivilant results.

As others have said the best bang for buck thus far after a chip or before a map ;) is the turbo inlet pipe, circa 135+vat and 30mins fitting, it really makes a difference.

Fitted the ABD LAN thingy this weekend, relatively straight forward and easy for one person, if you take the front bumper shell off - only a ten minute job to find and undo all the fixing screws. I had greatest trouble getting clearence for the MAS wire connector to clear the plastic relay box mounted on the bulkhead, thought that the bridging silicon hose between the MAS body and LAN pipe could be a little bit longer.....

Next on the list of fitments will be the above referred to by Colin, however, with the stock air box off, you can get a good look at the existing turbo intake, but there's no much room in there. Question then, this thirty minutes fitting, is that best attempted from above or below and how many bits of piping needs removing to actually get at it? Somebody will no doubt have the answers....

I have been after one of these for a while but they were out of stock. If you and anybody else wants one I suggest we do a group buy. If so let me know and I will try to organise.

I plan to Araldite a new stud fixing onto the wing for the LAN pipe shortly.

Jon, TaviaRS fitted his in 30 to 45 minutes, I reada magazine for 20 minutes and a tenner. Jon did not have the luxury of a 6' ramp. No idea what is actually needed, but a local tuner/jabba/ip/awesome should be able to fit?

The one I have is a neuspeed from Awesome. Feel free to organise a grp buy, it makes sense if folk are willing to wait. A good pre jabba treat, although at any point it's bound to help all things spool.

Do you think it is worthwhile when you have a Milltek, LAN and remap already. I know Des agreed.

It's one of those, "it feels better" then after a day or so "feels good, aye yes it does seem to spool better" mods.

I have no doubt it makes a difference, IIRC it's in the region of 12bhp, but sheer airflow and it's less restrictive nature means it must be doing some good.

It was the last part ofthe puzzle for me, next is Jabba or APR, but as I already have the superchip I'm not in any rush to layout for that.

So to summise, I'm on a CAI, inlet pipe, superchip, full decat.

Each one I would do. Anything more is IMHO tartin* unless OEM needs replacing, presently awaiting a stone to puncture my intercooler while staionary of course ;)

So I will look to getting a turbo inlet.

I would certainly emphasise the need to get Jabba'd. My experience of going from Superchips to Jabba is there is a big difference over 3000 whilst not so much immediate grunt off the line but then dies by 5. This is born out by the boost that used to wack up to 1.0 straight off and then drop off,now progressive rise to 1.3 holds steady up to over 5.

Forgot you had superchip aswell...What I think I feel is that the car is as quick as APRStgII so about 220+, so the Jabba treatment should bounce me the difference between superchip and that, hopefully some, but really, maybe not alot in the real world...it will be done though.

Colin,

I didn't think Jabba could make much difference but believe me it does give you more boost for a lot longer i.e more top end. Of course Mike will tailor the curve to your preferences when you have it done and he will test it with you to make sure it feels right on the road for you. Dont delay as its getting more expensive all the time.
