312's fitted - slight problem...

Featured Replies

Managed to fit my 312mm brakes - new TT discs and pads.

Pretty much straightforward except fpr two minor hiccups:

First one, I knelt on an anti-squeal spring without realizing it. Felt a sharp pain in my knee and got up with the thing hanging out - had to pull it out with not a little force! (I think it's been more than 5 years since my last Tetanus jab - oh joy!)

The second one is that the pads came with an anti-squeal 3m tape applied. I just stuck them in.

Some irritating squealing when driving slowly - hope that it will sort itself out before I have to take something apart again. I hear that copper grease is the miracle cure - will try some tomorrow....

Even being gentle on the new brakes, I'm impressed...

They're designed to stop a 350kg heavier vehicle with 225bhp.

Worth the hard work, cuts on fingers and utter exhaustion!

(crawls off to bed...)

Cheers

Bas

Fitted it all yourself? Nice job

You need to teach Xav how to change brake discs now ;)

Went to the only place I've seen copper grease sold in - they're out of stock.

Been looking about today - no-one here's even heard of copper grease!

try some local motor factors ....... trouble is they will

have in trade pack sizes I guess

Get yourself down to a motorcycle shop and get some silkolene Pro RG2 high temperature grease made for bike calipers , comes in a small tub and is bright red stuff, just like the little packet you get with genuine VAG brake pads .

They also do the copper grease in the same size tub

Halfords sell it (their own brand) in small toothpaste style tubes, they keep it with the brake pads and fluid. ;)

Nery the one mate -

But I cured the squeal (as you well know) by putting the pads back in the right way around.............:rolf
