ADSL and ADSL2??

Featured Replies

Got a Netgear DG834PN router/modem jobbie.

Billed as ADSL on the unit, box and online at netgear.

But also in places on netgears own site, billed as ADSL2.

Will i need to buy a new one if i move to an ADSL2 service, or will this one be ok?

Just checking, as getting a rsponse from a technically competent netgear CS rep has been very very unrewarding.........

Proof of pudding is in the eating -wait & see

:iagree:

Hmm, like my Cisco engineer said

"Guess you'll have to suck it and see"

seeing as you bought it as an ADSL router then found out by chance that it *might* be ADSL2 compatable i'd take that as a possible bonus :D

What ADSL device is in it (The driver details in the user interface will tell you).

I can then work it out from the device.

ADSL is now a generic term, if the thing supports ADSL2 it can still be an ADSL router :)

as in router firmware, or modem ADSL firmware?

Router firmware:

V1.03.25

Modem ADSL firmware:

A2pB018e.d16f

Fairly certain that will be an adsl2+ device going by the modem firmware version.

A quick google brings up a load of problems with that particular firmware mind and how things go slow when you start uploading anything. Might be worth looking for a firmware update on the netgear support site.

If you do decide to move routers i wuld suggest getting something like a ZyXel or a Draytek, they are more expensive, but you pays your money, you gets your quality so to speak.
