Green Cotton Filter Cleaner

Featured Replies

Its about time I got around to cleaning my Green cotton panel air filter.

I was wondering if the cleaning solution was available to buy seperatly, or if there are any other easy/house hold alternatives out there.

Halfrauds only sell the pair (cleaner and Re-oiling spray) but I have a can full of the spray.

Any one got any ideas?

washing up liquid good for washing an air filter...... but do make sure you re-oil it afterwards.

Another vote for well diluted washing up liquid :D

I use that Oxy stuff that SWMBO uses for the whites.

Use a suitable tray, lay the filter in it and cover the filter with a few scoops of said bubblies.

Pour on some boiling water and watch the dirst bubble out - lovely.

You have to oil them? Oops, mine's just in straight from the box. What oil do I need?

You have to oil them??

yes it's not the cotton part that does the filtering...... it's the oil that filters the out the crud.... iirc they come pre-oiled anyway.... they should be cleaned and re-oiled every 30-40k

Where can I get the oil from?

most car accesory shop sell it.... even halfrauds do i think??

Check the piece of paper in the box with the Green filter - last time I checked it advised inspecting/cleaning at 5,000km

i normally change my air filter every 10k.....

I clean mine every 5k, when the oil gets changed.

Definitely need cleaning more frequently than 30-40k! I used to do mine every 10k but it was filthy by then!!! Guess it shows it's working

Yeah, it's definately better to have dirt on the filter than dirt AFTER the filter!!

Remember, a dirty cotton-gauze filter (10k> of dirt load) is no better than a standard paper filter for airflow! For long-term airflow, fit foam.

I thought the whole point of using green filters instead of K&N etc was that they were not oiled because it can mess with the MAF? Mines just come out after 10,000 and its horrible and black, standard one is back in for now. Anyone else feel a bit uneasy that the rubber seal around the filter doesn't fit like the OEM part? sits in the air box instead of over the lip. bit worried stuff might get past and into the engine....

Both Green and K&N are oiled filters. The amount of oil you spray on them after cleaning will determine how oily they are ;)
