Hello from a new Fabia vRS member

Featured Replies

Hi

I've been lurking on the site for 18 months and reassured by members' feedback bought a new Fabia vRS last September. Black magic, cruise, xenons and front flaps. Turners of Erlestoke, near Devizes, Wiltshire have been great. Just had 20k service and got 52mpg over the last 12 months (each filling logged, not using car's computer).

Just love the Fabia's mix of acceleration, flexibility and economy; also the ride and handling trade-off suits me well. Autocar summed it up well "fast, fun and frugal". Fitted Skoda roof bars and a black Halfords 250 litre topbox and went four up to France in the summer. Had just as much room for luggage, cheese and wine as my previous car - a Mercedes E220CDi auto which I had for 6 years and 106k miles.

Just a couple of niggles: road / tyre noise on coarse surfaces, which also excites a zizz from the front door trims. Rear passengers also comment on a firm / harsh ride.

Off to York in two weeks with my wife (last there on honeymoon 24 years ago) and will drop the car off at Seat Surgeons. Thanks to Briskoda for pointing me in their direction. They seem very helpful and professional. I'm going for black leather with red stitching. Autostyle are making mats to match - black with red binding and the vRS logo. Another good company to deal with.

The Fabia has taken me back to my first car in 1974, a mini which I tweaked and tuned. Just visited the Superchips site and waiting for a quote from Adrian Flux. Not certain on the chipping / remapping route though as my dealer seems less than keen, mentioning "the warranty". Any thoughts?

Sorry this post is so long, so I'll stop now, but happy to answer any questions.

My Girlfriend has a 05 Fabia vRS that she has owned from new, she has also done 20k miles and is really impressed with the car.

I was as Jabbasport last week getting some work done on my own car (Seat Ibiza Cupra Turbo) and was discussing with them the possibility of getting the vRS remapped as my Ibiza was remapped by them 2 yrs ago.

I was basically told that the weak point on the Fabia is the clutch, and the remap has to limit the torque to give it a fighting chance. So realistically its worth budgeting for a perfomance clutch and a remap at the same time, so this has put me off for the time being as things start getting expensive.

So if you clutch dies early after a remap the dealers might not be interested.

Hi, and welcome
