Audi RS avants - what do you know?

Featured Replies

yes, its another "help me chooose my next car" thread

Does anyone have experience of the previous shape Audi RS4 or RS6 Estates ?

RS6 yes. One of the best Q cars out there. Very fast, awesome noise, but horrible ride, horrible steering. Not fun, a bit like AMG mercs

RS6. Best car ever made in my opinion. Got the chance of being a passeneger.

Powerful car, but nearly 2 tonne's i believe.

There is a modified RS6 in Tamwroth with twin 6x"4" exhausts. Sounds fantastic when the guy puts his foot down

I have experience of the RS4. Only pulled a couple of car lengths on my Scooby in a straight line drag from a rolling start and was significantly slower than a TVR Cerbera which made us both look like we were going backwards

Chris

the old RS4's are very quick, can be tuned fairly easily too. just watch as parts are v expensive ie brakes etc.

depends what your looking for but the new chassis b6/b7 S4 Avant?

Kenny - what ever model I can get for £25k.

Do they come with ISO-fix ? ;)

Auto Trader

Dont want a saloon RS4.

no sorry i mean S4 saloons, RS4 was only available in avant.

S4 avants are great cars, quick and lovely sound off the 4.2 V8

IMO For 25k you won't get a nice RS6 and the 4s will be very leggy. I had a blat with an RS4 in my TVR and was surprised how fast it was, and being a manual I would imagine it to be more involved than the auto only 6. I just thought the 6 was a blunt instrument, very little finesse. Wouldn't say no though if my life depended on it.

Are they 18s its sitting on

Looks Niceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Yeah, standard wheels.

Upkeep of both the RS's is massive. Parts and repairs can cost a fortune even at a specialist.

My personal choice, however great the RS's are would be an S4 V8, cracking cars. The RS4 is good and very quick, but driving it can become tiresome IMHO, clutch and transmission very stiff and clunky. And still suffers the usual A4 fauts of that time. Plus wheels are made of cheese and buckle very quickly.

I agree with Lummox on the S4 V8. 339hp - and the RS4 (old shape) is only a few more HP (360 or 380 IIRC).

I agree with Lummox - S4 V8 all the way - even high milers as long as FASH.

I think you'll get a nice one for 25k, I saw an 03 S4 Avant in Autotrader with 60k and FASH for about 15-16k

V8 S4, Full Milltek exhaust and remap - circa 400bhp.

Sounds gourgeous.

Bit underpowered init.

May as well have a standard vRS. :D

Yeah but being quattro there is no need to have four people standing on the sills for max traction ;)

Plus wheels are made of cheese and buckle very quickly.

so Audi wheels haven't improved in strength since i worked for a garage in the 80s that had to change all 4 wheels on a Quattro due to buckling
