Slow starter

Featured Replies

My Octavia TDi often takes a few seconds to start/fire when I turn the key... It always starts but this cant be normal... What could the cause be?

Cheers!

Are you using the glow plug function?

Yep, I always wait for the glow plug light to go out before attempting to turn the key..

How old is the car? Is it properly serviced?

  • Author

Its a 2001 car. To be honest the service history is patchy and I don't know when the last one was.

So it might be a combination of several things then.

Fuel Filter, Glow Plugs, Air Filter.

I think you need to get it serviced properly then try and sort out any issues.

:iagree:

another vote for the glow plugs here!

Gonna book it in for a service next week, probably advisable to change the cambelt too I think.

If it is Glow Plugs, how much would that set me back?

glow plugs are only a couple of quid each normally, but going with the vw's true engineering brilliance they made them difficult to get to on most of the cars........ in fact if they had tried a little harder they could have made it impoosible to get to them......

anywho, rant over... labour costs are your main worry

Fuel Filter - Do it :)

Air filter do it every 10k not 40k :)

Glows could be but they usually last ages, still can't hurt.

Haynes neems to imply they are pretty much a doddle on the octy, suggests you may need an extension and universal joint on some enginnes mind.
