Iam changing my vrs petrol to a diesel and was just wondering what you guys would go for. Diesel vrs or lexus is se-l 220d?

If the prices were the same, probably the lexus i have to say.

The IS is a great motor....very distinctive!....make sure you drive one though as although the engines a cracker the gearbox and gear ratios let it down big time!...Lexus altered the gearing on the Sport model but it's still not what it should be and doesn't make the most of the engine/chassis.

Also if your over 6' I'd avoid the sunroof option as you may not fit (comfortably)

yeah I test drove the lexus and to take my car as p ex they need to find a skoda dealer that would take it. So far they have only found a dealer that will give £14k . Does anyone want it for a better price than that saves me hagling for hours

I would have to say the Lexus mate. I drove my mates GS 300, awsome cars with interiors that are out of this world. Only thing is the price, whats a Lexus 220D going for -

I'd have to go for the Lexus. Great engine and the seats are so much more comfortable than those in the Skoda. No estate version of the Lexus though. If you want an estate it's worth looking at the Toyota T180, same engine as the Lexus, lots of toys and fab build quality.

Just a thought.

Have you guys actually driven an IS220d??

I admit the Lexus looks fantastic and has all the toys - but THAT gearbox.............

My local garage gave me one to try for a day and I took it back after an hour. I simply couldnt find where the power band was. Constant gearchanges - no flexibility.

I previously owned a Honda Accord 2.2 ctdi executive and that was a far far superior engine to the Lexus.

Have now bought a Fabia vRS. Could have bought two for the price of the Lexus - and I know which is more fun !!!!

For goodness sake take a test drive before you decide !!!

I have and I must add I will only be doing short motorway drives or town driving where power does really matter to me, I just liked the comfort and the 14 speaker audio system :P

Ive been offered a new SE-L for £24,900 with met paint, I think thats a great price.

Good price - I have found 220d SE-L (no sunroof) for £26,499 - which is £1,369 off RRP.

Bite the hand that feed - although if its like the old IS it will chew tyres - not sure about economy or power delivery though

I'm like my 140bhp / 320nm TDI, and can't imagine a 170bhp VRs

I don't mean to knock the thread off completely onto another car. But, I think the better car in general if that kind of money is going to be spent. Would be a new 320d?

A car place had a 05 maybe even 06 320d for sale at 14k , obviously don't hold their value that well any more the 4 cylinder 3 series.

Was in silver, think it was es trim

It will hold it's value from that point onwards though. Obviously from the first owner or so, it will de-value a bit.

Which is always a plus side for second hand buyers!

Go extreme and head down the road for a 330D

Think the Octy2 and IS are a different league from one another, TBH, especially when you look at both their list prices. There's something like a £6k difference between the list price on a vRS TDi and the IS 220d SE? :eek:

The IS is a lovely car, beautifully made with a great cabin. But I can't hep thinking it wouldn't feel that 'special'. Especially as you're sinking nearly 25k in it! I can't help feeling if it were me, that money would find itself going in BMW's or Audi's direction.

I tried the bmw and thought it wasnt so good. I felt it was cramped and hated the styling, although the SE-L is alot of £ you do get alot of kit compared to the BMW and anyway theres no going back now its ordered

Had both BMW & Audi. Poor service from Audi, bad at returning phone calls.

BMW 320d SE was a good drive, right up to the point the engine (never thrashed, always looked after) blew up at 119,000 miles! The car was taken to my regular dealer where they moaned they were swamped with broken BMWs. After 3 weeks they still hadn't fixed the car (total engine re-build as part of the induction system had been sucked into the engine). The service manager confessed that warranty work takes 2nd place to servicing retail customer cars, they receive quicker payment for the latter.

I now drive Japanese.

the only thing that made me think about a different brand was when I had spec'd the vrs diesel up. It came to around £21000 and at that point I thought I should look around before spending that amount. So when lexus offered me a fully spec'd IS for £24,900 I thought it would be worth it.
