Citroen C2 mini review

Featured Replies

Today I have a C2 1.4 Furio as a courtesy car.

It's surprisingly spacious inside , the seats are nice and comfy and the interior looks quite nice in a "trendy" way.

It's bloody slow though - I pulled off the trading estate and up a steep hill and it just didn't want to know. After a 2.0TDI you really notice the lack of torque. When pushed hard it will go a bit better but even flat out it's not really making much progress.

The gearbox is nice but the clutch biting point is right at the top which takes some getting used to.

Handling is ok , but the short wheelbase means that when you hit a pothole or lump in the road going round a corner the whole car skips sideways quite badly.

One thing I didn't like is that the steering tries very hard to return to the centre position.

On the motorway it'll happily mooch along at 75-80 but if you lose speed it takes a while to get back up. Very stable though.

My biggest gripe however is with the fuel gauge.

It just has six orange lights so you have no idea how close to empty you are which is very annoying.

On the whole it's not a bad car , but I wouldn't be thinking that I must have one if I was looking for something of that size.

Nice little review. I liked these cars, never been in one. I just liked the interior and the styling from outside. I have however, been in the new Yaris. I think that's an excellent car.

The VTS could be fun with a decent engine , but I'd be much more likely to buy a C1/107/Aygo if I wanted a tiny car.

Oh , and 6th gear was a bit noisy when I tried it :(

The C2 with the 1.4HDI is pretty nice ;)

I test drove the C2 VTR last year. It was good fun to drive, but I hated the gearbox, it was just too damn jerky and slow changing gear. I also had issues with rear leg room. Once I'd got my seat sorted, the only way you could get people in the back would be to chop their legs off! There was literally only 2-3 inches between the back of the drivers seat and the rear seats.

And I managed to get about a

nice little review!

I had a C2 GT for about a year (and 45,000 miles), limited 2,500 model run, it has the same engine as the VTR (1.6 110bhp) but manual shift and weight saving knocked 2 seconds off the 0-60, was also lower and harder than the VTR...

front is spacious, but as someone else said, no room in the back!

engine was good up to about 60 mph, but then very slow to make progress in comparison to a fabia vRS...

handling was fantastic, one of the best I've drive... it also had the tendancy to skip sideways on bumps.... very worrying at first, but once you get used to it and ignore it, you're ok.... it never let go! (well, not without severe provocation!) ;)

the steering was pretty cool on the GT, variable assistance, three to four turns lock to lock when slow, one turn lock to lock at about 50 mph + (steered F1 style at those speeds!)

the fuel gauge I simply ignored until it got to reserve when it automatically changed the computer display to how many miles you had left......

I really liked it, but the build quality and reliability were pants... bits of trim would fall off on people, the gearbox gave up at 40k, (and citroen wouldn't replace it. they insisted on keeping the car for weeks and 'repairing' it! ) went back to the dealer so many times I gave up on citroen....

fabia's only been back to the dealer once (55k so far!) and they gave me better service than citroen.... so I'm sold on Skoda now! :)

From the specs that seems to be better suited to the car and should be very economical

I've just returned it and now have a few more thoughts.

The fuel guage does indeed suddenly start displaying the remaining distance when it gets low - 62 miles left on my way home so plenty of warning.

The brakes are fantastic. I had to stop reasonably quickly for some lights and either I pressed too hard or they have emergency brake assist. The car just stopped dead faster than anything else I've driven and someone following too close could easily have rear ended me.

mmm brake assist, the newer (than mine, mine is an 05) fabia vRS has brake assist too... in my GT it used to come on too easy, with a bit of a 'spirited' drive to a roundabout it could operate, sets the hazzards off too!, hope it's less sensistive in the vRS as I'll be getting a 07 model in April....

  • 3 years later...

drove a 1.1i and what a rubbish car, no go whatsoever and horrible notchy gearchange, felt cheap aswell. did not like the digital speedo its rubbish rather stick to a needle one tbh lol

  • 1 month later...

I had a 54 plate from new, was the c2vts. rather nippy with 125hp and handled very well

Only hiccup I had was the manifold bolts snapping. Wrong grade bolts were used in a batch of vts/r's

c2vts.jpg

I to had a VTS and loved every minute of it, i had mine for about a year and around 45k and i didn't have one problem with it, no rattles, no trim coming lose nothing! It was very well built and very reliable! Oh and as mentioned above i think it had the best brakes i have ever used!

If i had to have a run around i would definately have anouther one! But i think i would either go for the 1.6HDi or the Code 1.6 125bhp but it has leather and few other nice lil bits

Cheers - Dave

Oh go on i will add a few pictures :D
