drivers side door stays locked - even when i try opening from inside ?

any ideas

just happened

cannot open drivers side rear door - stays locked no matter what

if i sit in the inside with the engine running - try handle twice and it still stays locked. The silver barrel lifts up when i try and open the door via the handle but pulls down tightly when i let go,

obviously looks like a garage shot, but how will they get into it when they cannot open the door to release the trim
