Is this the end?

How robust are these VRS? I was rear ended(car only) on Fri:eek: . The other car has been written off. The bumper is now flat, the bottom of the boot lid is dented, and out of shape to the point that the vrs badge has peeled off on the corner where the line of the boot now disappears. Not that it opens anymore. I had a look from the rear seats, and it looks like the corners where the lip of the boot turns up around the lights have been torn apart. Not sure what happened underneath. Is this a good day for the repair company, or a trip out for a replacement car? haven't heard from assessors yet. Not impressed. Had only just sorted the tyres.

I'd prepare yourself for the worst i reckon... if the interior of the boot is that badly damaged then the floor must have been buckled in the smash.

Chase the assessors and see what they've been able to sort.

I take it your in some sort of courtesy car so not having to walk ?

If I had been hit and it left that much damage I think I'd hope it was written off. Hope you're okay, though.

I'd say most likely written off to, but not to the extent that the car wont re-appear on the road later.

Had an ask of a friend in the loss adj trade...

He guessed write off from the sounds of what you say.

EDIT: said B/C depending on how bad the bendage in the boot floor is.

I would get looking for a new car IMHO, and if it isn't you can be pleasently supprised.

Don't forget if the insurance offer is very poor you can insist that they replace your car with one of equivelent type/spec and condition.

Good grief, I wish French insurance companies had that kind of cover - here, it's "Have a few bob, and go away", and that's your lot.

TBH, firstly I'd think about why the car crumpled at the rear...

It was absorbing energy that otherwise would have inpacted upon the passengers. Hopefully then everyone that was involved is fine?,as that is the most important thing!

with regards to the insurance status of the car, it probably will be written off. I would advise that you scavenge any morsels you may have attached, and squirrel them away for later resale;-)

as for the actual offer-compile a dossier showing the adverts for similar age/mileage/spec cars- this has often proved useful in upping the offer considerably (esp in the case with older cars, eg bmw e30's)

good luck and let us know what happens

give accident exchange a call

Welcome to the Accident Exchange Group plc

if the accident is not your fault then they will get you an equivelent courtesy car to the vrs the next day. they will also do all the chasing for you with the insurers.

my brother has used them twice for his seven series and even though his car is a 1999 model they gave him a brand new 535i sport as a courtesy car. he just drove around until accident exchange rang him and said his car was ready (took 6 months to fix at bmw dealer!). they charge the car rental back to the other guys insurance company and you don't have to pay them a thing.

genius.

Careful as that can cause you insurance problems.

Let your insurance deal with the C/Car if i were you.

Chris Knott put Lawyers straight on it, as was not my fault, to avoid having to pay my excess etc. So they sorted the hire car. Car has been assessed, and is apparently due to be fixed, so look forward to a good job (hopefully), and getting my car back. thanks for all the advice, sure others may not be so lucky and could learn from it all.

Good for you but bad for me, I need a complete front end !!

Having had experience of a few "bent" cars provided the repairer knows his stuff it should be as good as before the accident when you get it back. If you suspect it might be twisted slightly worth asking if they intend to put it on the jig. Might act as a gentle reminder !!

Also might be worth a 4 wheel allignment check when you get it back, Im not saying it could be repaired badly but we had a rear ended car repaired a few years ago & it just felt wrong. Transpired the rear tracking had been knocked out of alignment, once retracked it drove better than before the accident.
