Ticking front driver's side

Featured Replies

Fabia Estate 2006 1.4l 16v 3500km.

I have a strange repetitive ticking sound from the front ds. It sounds like something in the wheel, hub or axel assy. It actually sounds like two marbles hitting each other from time to time. When I drive slow, it makes a constant tick, tick, tick, tick. However, when I am driving faster, the ticking actually slows down and then stops all together until I slow down again at which point it picks up again. I checked many times for rocks in the tyres, but it's not that. I haven't owned a car that needed wheel bearings or cv joints before, so I don't know what kinds of sounds those can make - but I am suspecting one of those.

I also get a slight griding/loose sound (like screws shaken in a tin can) from the same side going slow and turning to the left. When I let the clutch out there is something on that same side that rattles and sounds similar.

It's already been to the mechanic twice and to no avail. :(:(:(

I really like the car, but this and my steering system problem (internittant pas and a constant and worsening knocking sound heard through the dask with small side to side steering wheel movements) are not good signs to me.

I am a little frusterated as the Skoda dealer doesn't recognize/hasn't fixed any of these problems so far and each time they have the car for a week. :thumbdwn:

If someone has any clues, I would surely appreciate it.

I'm sure I've read this before :rubchin: Not sure what to search for though and can't remember if or how it was resolved.

Someone else might though.

Sorry, not much help - please treat as a bump.

Mo

I can understand your frustrations, I dont know how many dealers you have in Colombia so I dont know if trying another is an option. I wouldnt have expected these problems on a one week old car.

Presume you have alloy wheels and it isn't a stone under the wheel trim (which used to be a jolly good wheeze :D) other than that all I can suggest is run if the ticking stops

Mo - might be because I posted a couple months back...

Pat - Alloys, yes - so that's not the problem.

Manny - There aren't very many dealerships here and I have already gone to the best one.

Thanks for the replies. I have good news!

I took the car to a different dealer (Eurodealer) - one which I thought was less prepared to do the job (not the main garage). Anyway, they recognized all the problems right away and, among other things, ended up changing a damaged pas pump. I think that my steering was goofed from the beginning, because it feels much "tighter" and more direct now. They also changed some other parts in the suspension which have helped most of my other problems go away.

The brakes (or something) still grind, but maybe that's just normal. They couldn't find anything wrong with brakes/bearings/axels.

Anyway, I am very pleased with the work they did. It took 3 days - and that included having to bring a new pas pump from Bogota.

My car feels much better.
