Suspension and Fitting

Featured Replies

When for instance, you get new springs put on a car. For e.g. Changing from standard springs to Eibachs, Will the person also 'Lazer line' the wheels, or use another method? or is this something which isn't required when changing springs? Something i don't know about. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Aaron

Any suspension work should be followed with a geometry check. Repalcing springs means struts out, so definately should be done. Trouble is many people who will do work on suspension dont bother to do geometry checks afterwards.

Full geometry check or four wheel laser alignment is best. Many garages just do a toe angle check and often doent even centre the steering when adjusting.

Check that the work includes proper 4 wheel alignment (normally around

Agreed, although technically there isnt a reason to do it other than its good practice. Nothing will have moved from its original position when changing the springs.

I'm prepared to bet (presuming this is a slam, not just different rates) that the camber and castor angles will have changed (not much, but some), although they're technically not adjustable on most cars AIUI.

the caster and camber angle aren't adjustable on a fabia, the only thing which you can adjust is the tracking

Often but not always the case. If the track rod angle is changed (by virtue of the balljoint being at a different height relative to the end of the rack), the toe angle may be altered. If it was already near the accepted limit, modding may take it over.

strictly speaking you are correct Tom , but with reference to something Ross posted for me when i required the alignment figures for mine ,quoted off the technical data ,

" it is possible to adjust the camber within the tolerance range by shifting the engine-gearbox assembly carrier with console , note always replace the screws and washers of the engine-gearbox carrier !"

but i suppose any normal garage wouldn't have the time to do it properly

incidentally i was pleasantly surprised when i checked my tracking after the springs were fitted because it was near as damn-it spot on :D still pulls to the left though :(

yeah my tracking is spot on too! but like you say, mine pulls to the left also!

It's just changing the springs. So, all that is 'really' necessary would be tracking?
