New design 1.8T engine

Featured Replies

Top Gear magazine were reviewing a new slightly larger Altea this month and they mentioned that it will be getting a new 1.8 litre petrol turbocharged engine.

Anyone heard anything about this in other vehicles?

I'm guessing that the new 1.8T is a 16 valve then.

Not sure if it is just a refinement thing or improved torque that I would prefer the 20 valve version.

Just googled it and found this:

Audi debuts new 2.8 FSI V6, 1.8 TFSI and 2.0 TFSI

160BHP to start with.

Interesting.

The 2.0T goes from 185 as seen in the Leon Sport up to 265

With this 1.8T starting at 160 it will soon overlap the 2.0 if they have higher output versions , and it's very close to the non turbo 2.0 150bhp engine

Well it's an FSI engine so it should be cleaner which will help for emissions regs

my only worry is that the "new" 1.8T will just be the same old 1.8T with new bits bolted on to make it euroIV compliant but possibly make it an unreliable and un-tunable engine.

could be awesome though.

Nope it's an FSI engine , so just a smaller version of the engine in the VRS II

New fab Rs might get that as the petrol lump if they do 2 versions
