Temperature sensor replacent

Featured Replies

I have a Felicia estate 1.9 diesel AEF engine.

Today I changed the coolant temp sensor because of poor start ups, apparently the one i had fitted with a yellow band was the wrong one, it was for a 1.3 petrol. I replaced it with the correct one which has a green band.

The car now starts fine but if I try to restart the engine when it is still warm the glow plugs will not operate, even after about 40 mins.

I have to disconnect the wiring on the sensor for the glow plugs to work, I can then reconnect the sensor. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks Jim

Hi Mate

IIRC it is the green ones for the diesels

I had a 1.3 petrol one in mine for a long long time.

I had 3 in in a space of as many weeks

But it just meant that even when warm the glow plug light came on

IIRC the glow plug light will come on only if it is needed , it does not need to come on when the engine is warm , it could only be first thing in the morning that it is required.

I am sure someone could tell me if I am right

Hi there, did you ever get over this? mine is doing exactly the same. I have replaced the temp sensor, which is fine at first, but the glow plugs fail to come on once the engine is hot, which causes the engine to struggle starting! Unplugging it fixes the issue!

some people fit the one with the yellow band from the 1.3 to cure this problem.

i have had the same problem i have now cured it by altering the injector timing by a fraction and this seems to have cured it

she will now happily start with no preheat as long as the engine dont require it.
