Another gearbox headache

Featured Replies

Hi,

Having come across this forum and enjoy reading the post i now need help with my beloved Felicia 1.3 GLXi plus. Its a 96 P and today it has for the 1st time let me down:( .

travalling down the motorway she started to jump out of 5th and had to hold her in at speeds of 70mph but when i slowed down she was fine keeping 5th. Coming off the motorway i found it hard to change gears and temp lost 5th. After getting to where i want to be on leaving i started her up and it seemed the cluch was semi engaged (leering forward) i dropped the clutch to put her in reverse and no movement just the revving of the engine. This applys to all gears now so can anyone shead any light on the problem please?? I have checked the clutch cable and its all in tack and working.

Thank

Bri

have a look underneath and make sure the rear engine transmission isn't loose or damaged...... if you use a big heavy screwdriver or a crowbar check for excess play in the mounting, this would be the first thing i would look at, then next the gear lnkage/bushes

Cheers Teflon will (once it been recovered) will look at this its only been 4hrs since she played up and already miss her!

The linkage you said about is this a huge friendly job or am i looking at a garage jobbie?

i've just re-read what i wrote in my first post...... it should have read, chech the engine/transmission mounting...... anyway, the gear linkage is a very lightweight metal bar the links the bottom of the gear stick to the gearbox shift mechanism, with another bar which joins the gear stick housing solidly to the transmission casing which braces it and keeps the gear stick in a constant place in relation to the engine/gearbox......

the gear shift linkage has rubber bushes which cause trouble when they are worn, also the u/j can give you grief too, but i thinh your problem is far more likely to be cause by the steady bar being loose(or missing??)

i've just noticed that you aren't that far away from me from your profile.... i might be able to come round and have a look at it tomorrow during the day if you aren't too busy
