fabia Brakes

Featured Replies

Im thinking about getting drilled or grooved discs put on but I dont no if its better to use the pads the same make as the discs. Does this matter ?

Its just because there are about 8 different types of pads I could use and Iam getting confused.

As always any help would be gratefull:thumbup:

this 'high performance' pad and discs issue has been argued to death on here!!

but put simply, your fabia probably isn't driven hard enough to warrant fancy brake materials, and if it was driven on a track then the high performance stuff like black diamond / ebc / other would be useless and burn out in a few miles anyway

What fabia you got?

Most people on here including me would recommend Ferodo DS2500 pads. Can be a tad pricey but well worth it. Another make people go for is Pagid.

I use Ferodo DS2500 with oem 312mm discs. The only problem I have is brake fluid boiling. So a regular change is needed depending on driving style.

you could try going over to using a dot5.1 brake fluid, this has a higher dry boiling point than dot 4 and it should clear up any fluid boil problems

IME, if I were to run EBC Greenstuff again, I'd go with EBC discs as they seem to be well matched. However, I'm now a convert to Ferodo DS2500's and they seem to be fine with any discs :D

Pagid blue or Mintex M1144 will be my next pads assuming i still have the car then and can get the same material for both front and back.

Would be running that on stock disks on an Octy mind.

another vote here for M1144's..... i've allways used mintex pads, mainly because i can get good discounts on them, and also because they are top quality

Dont you then get problems with seals?

i've never had any problems with caliper seals using 5.1 fluid......

...i expect sombody is going to come along with a horry story about brake faliure soon:rolleyes:

Iv only got a 1.4 fabia, yes I no its nothing compared to your vrs 's but I im only 18 and it will take me years to buy a vrs :( :( Any how, im getting alloys put on the car soon and I just hate seeing plain standard discs, which will be even more visable with alloys. A set of drilled on the front would just look sweet

the 1.4's are good IMO. and they are cheaper to insure! when all those VRS' have blown the ar$e out the engine, you're 1.4 will still be going strong. we all have to start with cheaper cars to start with.... i'm 22 and the insurance on my 2.0 is silly for what it is, hardly supercar material!!

As Tom quite rightly said no you dont. As DOT 5.1 is compatable with DOT 4. DOT 5 is silicone based and not compatable.

It does however pay to look about, Some DOT 4.1 (Super DOT 4) have a higher boiling point than some DOT 5.1's. But generally Super DOT 4 has replaced 5.1 to stop the above confusion about compatability.
