Felicia Fun

Featured Replies

Since my Fabia and my upcoming superb, still looking!, my son has been hooked on Skoda's and really likes the Felicia fun, the dealership said they are generally used as workhorses and good quality specimens are rare, apparantley they were still MKI felicia's during the sale of the MKII model aswell.

My son wanted to know the performance specs, the engine specs and the handling, being a pickup. I am quite pleased he want's pne they are cheap and good looking, aswell as practical, but what are they like to insure? e.t.c

No idea on performance - probably "about average"... :D

Engine is the 1.6 as featured in Denis' Felicia, and quite possibly is the VAG unit, though I'm not sure on that either.

Handling was never great on the Felicia, I'd imagine the pickup isn't that great either - but then it was never designed to be fast or tight! :D

Is a 4-seater which is good - no idea on insurance either I'm afraid, but I'd expect it's relatively cheap...

This one looks like a rather nice specimen.

Thats really good, but apparantley Charlie dimmock drives one, I better not tell my son. I used to own a felly, 3 actually and I know the 1.6 is a VW unit, only the 1.3 was a skoda engine. Anyone else got any ideas on performance, it still look sporty though doesent it! The one you found is v.good, apparantley they are limited edit with only 600 ever sent to britain.

The 1.6 engine is the same 1.6 engine used in the 1.6LXi Octavia 98-00 model. In the Octavia this engine performs surprising well considering its bhp (75). As for handling the Felicia will not stand being thrashed around to much, you can easily loose the back end. Other than that it is ok for the price.

Also the same car was sold as a VW Combi pick up, which might be easier to find (minus yellow paint).

Yes, Ms Dimmock does drive one, but I'm sure that's not a reason either for or against owning one!

The 1.6 is the 75bhp one - in the estate this gave a top speed of 106mph, and 0-60 of 12.6 seconds. The Fun might be lighter so be a bit nippier...

So if the back swings out, then it oversteers? is that correct, Im sure my son will love that too!, until he hits a small pine tree in a country lane, but im a good driver and if you can control oversteer then I find it's allways better, because i found out on my Fabia Sedan that understeer is not v.contollable and maybe dangerous, like when I went round a roundabout too fast :)

Whats the fuel economy like on the 1.6, and any common faults on the felly, do they have a VAG self diagnostic system.

They do have the VAG dianostic thing. I get about 30mpg with this engine in the Octavia. It is a heavier car however. Used to get about 40mpg in the 1.3 Felicia. The only problem I had in any of my Felicia's was the alternator, but as I say that was the 1.3mpi engine. With the 1.6mpi engine in the Octavia I had a problem with the throttle body which others have reported for this engine in both the Felicia and the Octy.

I should Imagine the truckman top, which he also needs will deaden the pace somewhat, and summer is a while away....I know he's going to thrash this car, and i don't want him to cause it damage, are felicias fairly relliable and up to being thrashed around town centres and pub crwls with 3 of your 18 y/o freinds shouting "Go faster", VW are reliable, but will it stand up to a japaneese counterpart, which apparantley withstand a good deal of thrashing.

I found the Felicia to be very reliable. Both of my ones had Alternator failures but never to the point of leaving me stranded. As for carrying his friends, I drove more than that around Oxford in my mk 1 1.3 hatchback and have driven my 1.3 estate full of both people and bagage in a fairly thrashy way (hence why I know about the tendency for the back end to swing out :).

Well as far as I can see, this is a very ideal car for a new driver, BUT do you need commercial vehicle insurance as it is a pickup, and if so whats the difference.

Couldn't help you there.

Don't think so, my Mum used to drive a pickup and that didn't require commercial insurance. Basically, if a company will insure it, then they'll insure it! :)

Try running some online quotes through Direct Line or similar...

I don't think so either. A car is a car by any other name... however, getting insurance is a different matter.

My Felicia 1.6 has averaged 37.70mpg over the past 30,000 miles. Although the engine doesn't much like being revved, it is very flexible at low revs and pulls quite well from below 1000rpm.

Theres a Felica Fun around these parts with a VR6 lump in it, its mad.

My son wanted to buy one of these, he called his current insurer of his Felicia hatch at the time TESCO and they would not offer insurance for the Fun as it was classed as a comercial vehicle, and do not deal at all in commercial policies. He got some quotes elseware but was more than his Tesco private class policy.

In the end he went for a fabia as a Fun of the right age and milage didn't come up.

Incidentaly the Felicia Fun and Felicia Pickup that its based were built at the Vasciny plant were the Superb is now made. Although there are new halls built.

When I saw the line it was amusing to see the pickups goming down the line with the final stage puting on the VW Caddy grill and badging if it was destined for the VW market, with a shorter warranty a higher price tag aand an optional radio.

I did hear that the Skoda workers didn't give the same apply the same personal quality technics with he VW badged model - and put obscure faults on them - I wonder if it was true

John

Shows how much they Know look at thee vehicle deails :rofl::rofl:

"Skoda felicia pickup, Really a VW Caddy pickup named as a Skoda after VW bought the Skoda company. W Reg 2000 1.9 Diesel engine, Taxed untill May 04, MOT until June 04,removable truckman top, good tyres,VGC. Drives well, nice and tidy inside and out. 40+ MPG when driven sensibly. Vat to be added to the final price"

Should read Skoda... Felicia Pickup manufactured by Skoda and rebadged as a VW Caddy for badge snobs to buy at an inflated price, it replaces the previous Pickup manufactured by Skoda the Favorit Pickup.

I'm also a bit curious why VAT would be added to the final price...surely the amount you bid is the amount you pay?! And besides which, if it's a private sale which it's supposed to be...hmmm... :rubchin:

Theres one of them in our road, but only the fun model is for me. Does anyone know the standard specification on this model, p.s my 1.4 is a 75BHP, and there is a 100bhp model, so why is the larger 1.6 75BHP, does it have more torq, becuase my Fabia is 93lbs/ft, will a felly fun 1.6 have more torq.

1598cc petrol

comp ratio 9.8

output 55kw at 4500

135nm at 3500

1896cc diesel

comp ratio 22.5

47kw at 4300

124nm at 2500-3500

Thanks very much, Ill show them to my son, A bit lacking in torq though isnt it?

A bit lacking in torq though isnt it?
Maybe. But it does pull well from low revs which makes it (ie the 1.6) easy to drive in traffic.

The Felly Fun has to be skoda's sexiest car!
