Fabia VRS or not?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've been thinking about buying a fabia vrs, probably 06 reg.

There are a couple of things that are comcerning me before taking the plunge.

1. The stutter problem and a lack of a fix.

2. Is it a good buy as it will be replaced in 12/18 months with the new model i.e will this quicken up depreciation?

My main question is, what other cars would you consider that rival the VRS?

I intend to keep whatever I buy for 3-4 years.

Thing is everytime I consider another vehicle, I end up coming back to the VRS because of the combination of performance and economy.

I have max 13.5K to spend including trade-in (Fiesta Ghia 1.4TDCi 54 reg) but would prefer to stay at about 12K.

I also have some size limitations as I need to put whatever I buy into my garage.

Any advice appreciated,

cheers

Mark

From what I have read on here the stutter as a fix  but it is not allways intrusive in anycase. The new vRS is an unknown quantity but i would imagine that the impact on the resale value of a 4 year old car will be minimal.

As for other cars to look at it would depend on the practicality and economy you require. For eg the new mini when it arrives.

Cheers postmanpat for the reply:

As regards practicality - doesn't matter just want it to be sporty decent acceleration but not necessarily blinding.

Economy - yes that would be nice.

The Fiat Grand Punto Multijet 130BHP(I think) looks about the nearest thing I could find to the VRS, but the build quality of a Fiat worries me...

the only car I can think of to rival the vRS is the grand punto sporting.... but I'd worry about the build quality too... I have considered this car, but will get another vRS next april :) too worried about the fiat falling apart! love the styling though....

Me too ..

I'd be tempted to look at a Seat or Ford before a Fiat.

another vrs furby for me no doubt about it! once i get my finances sorted that is.

For your budget I suspect you'd pick up a new one depending on extra's you may want.

It's looking more and more like a Furby VRS methinks!

vRS, but keep it standard

Yep you'll save yourself a lot of money in the long run.

Have a longer look around. Welcome to Briskoda!

I have seen the new model Fabia. For me its looks too much like a 'hairdressers' car. Seven weeks into owning my vRS and nearly at 2,000. Some time ago sat in a Saxo VTS (or whatever it is called) and I cannot advise which is the better car for speed. But If you do go for a Fab you will be getting a cracking buy. But most important-to me anyway is the comfort and that is very very good.

Build quality-its good enough to rival any Merc or BMW.

I am totally smitten!

You sure?! I know the B-Q on mine isn't

I agree - and when you look at what price 6 - 12 month old ones go for it doesn't seem to make sense to buy second hand. If you shop around you should get a bit of the list price of a new one.

The low depreciation on the Fabia vRS compared with other possibilities makes it look even more attractive.

Question then,

If I were to go for a new vrs, and I want to part/ex my current car, do I just agree a value with the dealer and then hand it over when the vrs is delivered?

Presumably they would try to knock me down quiet abit if the lead time for the new car was 8/12 weeks?

I know everyone says to sell privately but I'm put off due to the hassle factor but moreover I would have to sell the car prior to the arrival of the fabia to finance it. To avoid problems I would probably be faced with doing this 3-4 weeks before the new car was ready. This would leave me with no car and subsequently big problems getting to work...

The dealer will probably give you a p/x price factored on the lead time, whether it be a factory build or sourcing a used example from another garage. They honoured my P/X price against a demo despite my previous car taking a big hit in Glass Guide over the time I was waiting. The chances are you will find a decent specced car pretty quick. Mine is an 06 by the way, and I have never had a problem with the known stutter. Good Luck

Hi & welcome..

Personally I wouldn't touch another fiat ever again...just got shot of my selaspeed sporting punto, had it since new (52 plate) and had problems from day one. The last one just before it went being an untraced leak on the passenger side...if you wanted a quick paddle no probs.

Don't regret parting with it for a minute, the only good thing in it was the decent stereo, but then it did cover up all the rattles!!

I too am totally smitten by my vrs & wouldn't hesitate to recommend one. Take a good look around, but do think they're excellant value for money too.
