Bluetooth - help me with phonebook, pls.

Featured Replies

Have searched all over the entire internett about the symbian phones and contact list transfer, but it seems to be a problem all over. Audi, BMW and Seat forums have the same discussion about transfering phonebook and there is a problem with symbian phones.

Reading your posts helped me to hold on a bit on idea of changing my Nokia 6021. I wanted smaller Nokia but now I'm not looking anymore beacuse I don't want troubles with bluetooth. Tell me, please, is there somewhere a list of phones using symbian software?

Thanks

haugano - shame to hear that, and it is something that Nokia / Symbian should fix, but I doubt they will :(

bosnjo - if a phone is a Symbian phone, it's normally listed within the Technical Specs on the Nokia website, although you can also try This website, which shows the Series 60 Symbian phones (the commonest Symbian OS on Nokias, although not the only one).

Just found the link of Symbian OS Mobile Phones:

Symbian OS devices

Hope this will help us choosing new phones.

Looks like it's one year old, but still might help.

OK, let us know
Bosnjo, what are you gonna do with the cradle on the dash...

I have a Nokia 6670 (Symbian OS) and there's not an adapter available for it.

Is there a way of taking it away?

I'm really annoyed that to have Bluetooth you are forced to have this cradle which is good only for an handful of models...

That's something I've spent a lot of time thinking about what to do. As a result, I'm not gonna touch it.

First, I'm not sure but I think Bluetooth is in the craddle. Second, if I take it away the I have to change:

1) Fascia - to one without the hole for craddle

2) Dash trim - to one without hole for cable

I did take it out once but now it's back on, don't want to spend money for those parts and risk to loose Bluetooth.

Ok. What's even more depressing is that the specific adaptors appear to be available only for old phone models. There's no adaptor for the N70...incredible...

Has anyone already tried the bluetooth with a pda phone device like a HP ipaq?

I asked some time ago, but nobody seems to have...if so i have to wait some more weeks until i get delivery of my race blue octy tdi rs with bluetooth....

Does anybody have confirmation for this? What's the point in selling a car in 2007 with an adapter that is good only for some 2005 phones?

Yes, the manufacturer of the cradles hasn't produced any new cradles recently, so it's not just Skoda falling behind the times.

I don't buy this. It's VAG that decides what equipment gets in their cars, not the cradle manufacturer(s).

They should not be selling an add-on that it's pretty much just useful for ruining our dashboard aesthetics. Furthermore, they force it on you, since it's the only way to get Bluetooth support.

I'm extremely satisfied with my L&K new specs, but this sucks hard.

Two issues - 1. There appear to be 2 different cradle systems, neither of which support new phones like the N70. I'm not sure whether Elan produces both units, it certainly produces the one that is available from the dealer as an addon kit, but whether the factory fitted kit is also Elan I'm not so sure now. However, as it's really difficult to obtain (Bluetooth) in the UK, it's even more difficult for me to comment.

Secondly, when VAG selected Elan to supply these kits, they covered the majority of phones on the market. Elan simply haven't kept up with newer phones. As such, VAG should consider changing supplier to one who is keeping them updated (or of course, we should simply buy from the other manufacturers who are keeping their cradles up to date). Alternatively, VAG should request Elan produce new models.

So, although it's ultimately within VAG's control, they can't supply something the manufacturer doesn't make - but they should do something about it.

I agree that they cannot sell something that doesn't exist, but the cradles are not supporting popular phones that came out more than a year ago (the N70 was just an example, I don't have that phone) and yet the adaptor was force fed to me at the end of December 06 and it would be force fed to me even if I bought the car today.

If you want bluetooth you have to accept an aesthetically ruined dashboard, with an adaptor that does not accept phones newer than about two years ago. I will call Skoda's customer support and protest vehemently. I could have accepted their adaptors not being compatible with my specific model, that's life. But I cannot accept to have something so useless permanently stuck on my dashboard.

I mean, look at bosnjo signature, the central picture. What the heck is that adaptor standing there for? Nothing, that's what.

You know, I agree.

I'm currently looking into the best way to add a car kit to the car, and have looked at the various cradle manufacturers, and Skoda / Elan simply aren't in contention...

Are there viable alternatives to substitute the factory-fit cradle? I would actually like to be able to charge the phone with no cables around...

There are plenty of options for charging the phone with no cables (although blatantly there has to be a power cable somewhere...) ranging from something simple like a Nokia phone cradle with a Nokia car charger, through Nokia car kits through to third party car kits which have interchangeable cradles or phone connection cables.

It really depends on how long you keep your mobiles for, and how much you want to spend on the initial kit, and every time you change your phone...

Then there's the whole question of the handsfree element - will you use a Bluetooth Headset, or a car kit with an external (or built in) speaker, or do you want to link it into the stereo.

I'd like to keep on using the built-in Bluetooth in the Octavia (I somehow doubt it is linked to the cradle they mount).

I tend to keep phones for at least three years.

I think it is linked to the cradle (ie you need the cradle and car kit system fitted in order for Bluetooth to work), but I think you can remove the cradle and Bluetooth will still work (of course, you will then need 2 new dashboard parts else you'll have holes in the dash where the cradle and cable once were...)

You could then simply fit the phone manufacturers phone cradle (if they make one - if not, there may well be a 3rd party cradle available from the likes of Brodit) and use a car charger plugged into the cradle....

my problem is the I-mate JASJAM ... it's driving me crazy and disconnecting every few mins.

Got a Sonyericson k800i last week. It is working fine with bluetooth. No problem with phonebook transfer. No problem with disconnection. Works perfect..

It is not a symbianphone.

I had a SE k800i and it would not connect to my Motorola HF850 Car Kit so I took it back and changed it for a Krazr K1...Perfect now
