Bluetooth - help me with phonebook, pls.

Featured Replies

I've just established connection between my cell and Buetooth in my Octy. Dealer didn't even tell me that I have Bluetooth. I saw it in owner's manual and decided to give it a try. It works very well.

But,

on first connection it said: "Transfering Phonebook". I've let it do it but as it was like that for five minutes I thought it got jammed, so turned the ignition off and then back on. Then I found out that I shouldn't have done it. Only first 10 numbers from my phonebook were transfered. I wanted to repeat the operation but just didn't know how. I've tried erasing connection on my cell and searching back for it but it only finds connection but doesn't start the transfer again. I also don't know how to erase those 10 numbers transfered. Owner's Manual only explain how to deal with voice phonebook.

Anyone with any idea what to do?

Thanks

OK, I've figured it out all by myself. Now it works fine and it's amazing all that Bluetooth in the car can do. Now I have my whole phonebook on Maxidot, I can do a dial using my voice, store, delete, dial, edit (etc) numbers by voice and, what's most important, as soon as I get into the car, connection between the car and phone is established, I hear "Blip" on my radio HU, and it works. No need to take the phone out of the pocket. As soon as I turn the ignition off, connection is cut and phone is back on its normal status. Amazing. Phoned my salesman today and he was damn suprised I had Bluetooth in the car. He said nobody in the sales office knew those car have Bluetooth.

Cheers

Sounds like a nice piece of kit.

Why doesn't that surprise me......I bet ya if ya rang HQ they'd tell ya it wasn't on the car. Maybe they should come on here for their info

Btw How did you get all the numbers on in the end ???? Pair it again or something?

Do we have bluetooth on ours?

Do we have bluetooth on ours?

Don't think so, I was just interested to hear how it got fixed.

When I did the first transfer, something got wrong as all of my phonebook on my cell was erased, but four numbers that stayed there. I was trying to transfer my contacts to the car but just then understood that my cell had just 4 contacts. So, I renewed my phonebook on my cell phone (153 contacts), entered the car and it said straight on "Transfering Phonebook". After, all seemed OK and still working fine. All of my contacts are there

Yes, there was no problem at all.

First, transfering between the phone and bluetooth takes at the first time about 15min. My problem was that I've switched the ignition off, thinking that something was wrong. As a result all my phone book was erased, but on the phone. So I was trying after that to transfer the phone book to the car's bluetooth and it would transfer only 4 contacts. Then I checked the phone and found out that the phone book on the phone had only 4 contact left. Renewed my phone book and then established connection again, but this time on the journey that took about half an hour. After 15 min. phone book was transfered and it works fine ever since.

So, check if you have all of your contacts on the phone first and then let it do the transfer as long as it takes. Don't inturrupt it.

It doesn't ask you for anything. As soon as you make sure that connection is OK (New device search, PIN etc.), transfering is being done in background. At the first time it takes about 20 min. to do it. Every next time it takes few seconds just to do updates of your phonebook and last calls changes. In my case, on first use my entire phonebook disapeared from my phone (have no idea why). Made my contacts again (thanks god, had them all in my other phone) and then established connection and contacts were on my MaxiDot.

So, fist make sure that phone is working well and make at least one call, just to make sure. Second, drive around for about 20 minutes, time for phonebook to get transfered. Third, check on Maxidot to see if you have the phonebook. If not, make sure it's in the phone. I have to say here that it may vary from phone to phone. Mine is Nokia 6021 and works fine. Maybe some other phone wouldn't do it automaticaly (transfer) but then it has to be a way to send contacts from the phone to the car, as the car has it's own storage for phonebook. For example, I've got bluetooth for my PC and I've just finished transfering all my contacts to Microsoft Outlook, but there was no way to do it automaticaly. I had to do it from the phone: Phonebook-Name-Options-Send Business Card-Via Bluetooth-Searching for Device-Business Card Sent. And I had to do it one by one, it was nightmare.

Hope it helps, let me know of updates

Hi again. My phone would not transfer the contacts automaticaly and i tryed to transfer as you discribed for Outlook without succes.. My phone is an Nokia N70 and i tryed an Nokia n73 and a 6680. The message you discribe as "transfering phonebook" does not show on my Maxidot.. But all the phones is working fine with bluetooth in my car. Is there something to do with the setup in the car maybe?

I am Norwegian so sorry if my English is not well!!

Well, there shouldn't be anything to do on the car. The only thing I can think of is to try to erase completely the connection (paired device - Skoda) from your phone and then try to search again and do the connection. Do you have anything in your Owner's Manuals that may help?

Sorry, from this point I just can't think of anything else. I'm not sure if Bluetooth works over Head Unit. My car has Audience, but as I said, not sure if Bluetooth is completely independent unit.

By the way, my english is not so good as well. I'm portuguese.

Ah, one more thing. All has to be done with engine running. So, after you erase connection, turn on the engine, let it run and then try to establish it as new connection and see what hapens.

Ok. Thanx. Will try that today..

I think most of those phones are Symbian smartphones, which don't support the automatic phonebook transfer - you normally have to run a little app on the phone which will then send the contacts to the handsfree kit. The app should be available from Nokia's web site for each model, and is normally called the Nokia 610 contact transfer app (or similar).

Oki, will try that.

Oki, will try that.

Let me know if it worked, I'm gonna need to change the phone soon as mine is too old and if there is a way that aplication works I'd be more relaxed on buying any Nokia

HAve to try some more. Tryed with the N70 - installed software nokia 810 on my N70 and something is happening, but my phonebook still is in the phone and not on my MaxiDot. Will try with N73 tomorow with software nokia 616 and i will see what happends then..

OK, let us know

I give up with my Symbian phones ( n70, n73 and 6680). Have tryed with different programs form Nokia ( nokia 610, 616 and 810) and my phonebooks is still in the phones and not transfered into the car. Tryed with an Nokia without symbian OS and this phone transfered the phonebook easy ( 15-20 mins).

Tryed also this from Fiat website

Nokia N70

Maybe this is a way to solution, but it still dont work.. Have to research a bit more.

I will post it here if i get any luck.

Strange - those contact download programs seem to work with every other Bluetooth kit that supports a phonebook. Did you follow the instructions on how to use the application before you turned on the car kit...?

I think the idea behind Symbian (at least Series 60 3rd Edition, like my E61 and all the N-Series) is you use the built-in voice recognition and speech synthesis. Whats the point of transferring your address book to the car and trying to keep the 2 copies in sync when you can just say the name of who you want to call and the phone dials. Do you really need a display of who is calling when the phone says the name of who is calling over speakers?

Yes i followed the instructions, but it doesnt work. Not in my car. Maybe i will try to reset to factory settings in myMaxiDot. Maybe this will help.

Do you have the phone that says the caller's name on car's speakers? If you do, please tell us the model so we can get one.
