VRS radio lost its code????

Featured Replies

my VRS symphony radio has suddenly lost its code, and the battery has not been disconected or anything, it just lost it when i stoped the car yesterday..

of course cos its an auto coding radio i didnt get the security code with the car as it should get it from the ECU. but it isnt and when i turn it on it says Safe, then asks for the code showing "1000"

i spoke to my dealer, who for osme reason dont have the code on their computer and need the serial number to send away for the code, but this will take a while they said.

has anyone else had this problem? seems strange as there hasnt been any power loss to the car. also does anyone know of any sites on the internet listing the code? my mate found one that had the code for his sony radio.

To get the ecu to send the code, turn the key to position 1, dont start the engine and then turn the radio on, after a few moments safe should disappear and the radio should come on.

hmm, just tried this and it didnt work :(

if its not working this way does it mean there is a problem?

i even tried disconnecting the battery and trying it again and no joy.

also to make matters worse my head unit is impossible to remove with just the little keys, the garage had to remove the trim last time cos one of the pins is bent, so i cant even get it out myself to get the serial number :(

any more ideas?

anyone able to help?

The factory h/u can be "tight". Try removing it complete with the oddments tray thingy underneath it.

Also, the heater surround thingy pops off and the vertical trims either side of the stereo pop off (with a little force and a lonish screwdriver).

Also, also, the trims and switches above the stereo pull out/pop off too. The trims are clipped in (use a thin screwdriver or similar. The switches are an friction fit. i.e. They'll pull out.

If all else fails, try removing the glovebox. You may be able to push it out from behind then.
