Convince me to buy...

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I've nearly talked myself into buying a 2002 Octavia Estate 1.8T 4x4. :D I can't really afford such a beast so I'm going to justify it to myself by having it converted to run on dual fuel - the LPG conversion will cost almost

we'll it should run 100k without any real problems, it's also worth remembering the goverment will pay for part of the conversion with a grant (up to about 50% but, I'm not sure if you've factored in those discounts) also a remap will see power of about 220 bhp! ;)

Welcome to Briskoda.

Hi & welcome mate:thumbup:

Good call on the conversion, I'd also check if the cambelt has been done?

Other than that should'nt cost any more to run than most of the competition.:D

Hi I have a 2001 Octy 4x4, Well like yourself I was very worried about getting mine, and I can just about afford it, I do wish I could afford to change now to the new octy 4x4 but i would def have the diesel. My insurance went scatty, due to my wife only having driven 3 years, but I'm 30 and found it hard to get insured. My MPG I not great at all 25mpg on a good day! My 4x4 controller went but its not that common I believe and replaced under warranty. the 4x4 system needs reg service as does the car, but I do it myself as otherwise it's expensive (For me). I too considder getting LPG conversion, but I don't think it will be as good a save as it sounds.

Hope this has helped, feel free to ask more info if u need.

Thanks for the welcome, everybody. :) In particular, Charlie...

Wah, that's pretty low! I'd read elsewhere that if you're gentle with it you can get 40mpg. Would you disagree?

What attention does it need? I'd hope I'd be able to "do it myself", too, whatever it may entail - any specialist tools/knowledge required?

I'll post some numbers when/if I get it done.

I hope I'm not being too cheeky, but I see you're in Kent (I'm in Maidstone) - do you think I could have a look at your car some time? I'm finding it very difficult to get hold of one and I'd really like to be able to have a nose around one before travelling the length of the country to buy one.

Thanks again...

I have a remapped 4X4 Estate which has averaged 32.42 mpg over the last 19600 miles. Mine is low mileage and on variable servicing - which means it only sees a garage every 2 years. The cambelt needs replacing every 120000 miles or 4 years (the latter a recent VAG-wide policy change), whichever comes first, so it should have been done.
