Dyno results

Featured Replies

Spent the morning at Stealth Racing and this is what happened...

First up the results with just the Superchip were:

122bhp at 4033rpm

197lb/ft at 2310rpm

Power at wheels 92bhp

Transmission power loss 29bhp.

I was slightly disappointed at this result as on the superchips site power gains are quoted at 131bhp and 219lb/ft.

On the second run the tuning box was connected as well:

135bhp at 4126rpm

234lb/ft at 2439rpm

Power at wheels 103bhp

Transmission power loss 30bhp

Pretty chuffed at this result :D

I will be calling superchips this afternoon to see where i stand.

Has anyone else had power descrepancies with superchips? -

Hi,

I remember that another member (Chris?) had a similar disappointment with Superchips claims for his RS; he's happy about the increase just thought it would be more (from the claims).

Anyway seems like some good figures regardless :thumb:

What was your impression of the guys at Stealth? I ask as I plan to have the APR chip done for my RS there (they're the closest APR dealer to me in Basingstoke).

Cheers.

Adrian.

You know what its like with these places, when you turn up its just some workshop at the back of an old industrial estate.

I did feel they knew what they were talking about and the service was good.

Thats more than i can say about most other places i phoned up.

Phoned superchips and they said the settings of my chip could be changed (apparently) if i wanted more power and that figures always vary.

I'm very pleased anyway. :D 234lb/ft in a fabia ?

230tq+ I bet that Fabia really goes :D However i was wondering how you could end up loosing 23% through the driveline  Normal is 10%. I know an RS has aprox 165-170hp to the wheels.(the test was peformed by rototest)

Yes, i thought it was quite a lot of power lost through the driveline. However i didn't really question it at the time, so any ideas why it would be as much as this?

Its often been said that an Octavia RS produces more than the quoted 180bhp, so this could account for the above figures you mentioned.

I would have thought thats about the correct transmission losses..

My rallycar (1400cc) is doing 90bhp at wheels and with helical box and lsd that relates to 118bhp at flywheel - very close to your 92 and 122 figures.

Transmission losses are usually 20-25%+ through helical boxes as far as I know....

Thanks for that.

I have talked with a couple of other people and they experienced similar transmision power loss %.

I bet your nova is great fun! :D

I thought it sounded a bit high on the losses front.

IIRC mine was losing 11-12%

Yes the rallycar is indeed great fun - havent competed in it with that much power yet and reckon last year it was probably only pushing out 70-75bhp at wheels and was bloody good fun and quick through the corners..

Another 20% of power will make it a handful but Im looking forward to it :-)

Hello from sunny Cumbria!

Been lurking for a week or so on the Briskoda site. Have recently bought an Octavia RS in Lemon Yellow..."Custard the Dragon"

Love the car...fully functioning coil packs...so far. Funny how I'd not watched Watchdog in years, and then sods law, they tell us the cars' in danger of being 'Use-Less' rather than 'RS'.

Re. the chipping thread - I have a contact who specialises in Custom Chipping. His background is in tuning Porsche Cup Race Cars, although he'll work on anything, and rates the Octavia RS as a very capable Q car that can see significant benefits from Chipping. Wayne Schofield can be contacted at: [email protected]

Cheers,

Liz and Mark

Welcome on board.

Hey Guys,

I would like to put a question to all you writing in this forum!

Does anyone know the relation between the power units: BHP and HP. I know they aren't exactly the same. For instance, you use BHP measurements, and we use HP or PS (or French Cv which are the same).

Thanks,

Chris

This is a quote from

members.tripod.com/~autoxtremeph/wklyautobytes6.htm

"... If you want to dazzle your friends, you can say that one horsepower is equal to

1.0139 ps, making SAE horsepower roughly 98.6% of the metric DIN measurement. "

I seem to remember reading that BHP was calibrated from a horse attached to a rope walking in a circle... but that might have been Torque. Errr errr making stuff up now dunno

I think they had an article in Evo (or similar this month), which I read

while stood in a "library" - the term originated from steam engine

salesman who would quote the power of the engine by the number of

horses it would replace.

So, imagine an un-engined vRS being dragged by 180 horses
