Skoda iPod Interface & Model Year 2007 Cars: IMPORTANT

Featured Replies

Despite all information to the contrary the Skoda listed iPod Interface (Part Number: ZGB000051852; Description: Ice>Link Quadlock Ipod Connector) doesn’t work correctly with the MY2007 head unit that has the AUX In feature.

Without this modification, it sounds like the iPod of playing underwater! However, a simple alteration to the cable supplied with the Ice>Link will restore full sound quality...

With the aid of a very fine jewellers screwdriver carefully remove one of the black wires (taking care to identify the correct one) from the Quadlock housing and reinsert it to the new location.

[This is required because with the introduction of the AUX In feature, the CD Audio Ground pin has moved!]

I thought it might be that when we discussed it on Sunday. That's similar what I've had to do with my CD changer.

Strange that they keep the Ground signals separate - In the audio world Grounds are normally commoned together, hence the problem of Ground Loops and the need for Ground Lift switches on DI Boxes etc.

The AUX In is designed for use with-in the car, so it will either be fed by a unit operating from an independent battery, or by a unit that is being powered from the cigarette lighter socket. So there should be no potencial difference AUX Ground and CD Ground.

I have read various other posts regarding the Dension Kit.

Will this solve the issue where some people are fitting a suppresor to cut the hissing noise?

This mod will do nothing to remove Hiss, all it does is to provide the HU with the signal ground, without which the HU appears to reproduce only the phase differance between the R&L channels.

I've no hissing on mine! It could be related to where the unit is placed, and/or where the additional earth connection is taken from.

The Ice>Link was previously supplied as a shrink-wrapped PCB, but is now enclosed in a plastic box - I suppose that the boxed version may have some additional screening added. Also the audio cables are simple single core wires with no screening what so ever. Could even be related to what ever electrical equipment is installed.

However something that is grounded properly may benefit and it may well decrease the hissing.

Thanks for that, at least I now know why Neil Hannon Sounded like he was singing in the shower earlier! And no I make no apologies for my musical tatste! ;)

They may put the feed through an isolation transformer, which would explain why you get the phase difference signal.

Even in other environments, ground should not vary, but it regularly does. In virtually all cases there is only one mains earth potential, and neutral is tied to it. Independently powered equipment may have a raised ground potential, and may or may not make contact with the car chassis.

IMO, it's nice to know that VAG did not skimp on a a couple of reasonably expensive components that are not strictly necessary.

Just to carry on my fine tradition of being absolutley hopeless with Columbus, I have just followed these instructions and the ipod now sounds perfect but for some reasson DVD playback has stoped working. Audio CD's are OK but I can no longer access Video on the unit and this is the only change that I have made. Sorry if anyone feels that this is in the wrong place.

One day I hope to actually put something on this forum that helps other people ;-)

Thanks as always

Obvious question, have you made the correct connections?

out of interest, where does the car get the signal from the hand brake from?

If you are talking about defeating the no DVD playback then it doesn't use the handbrake it uses CAN.
