Security Question

Featured Replies

Hiya There

Just wondering, what would anyone recommend besides the min security to lock down a new Skoda VRS ? Just read about someones loss here, and a bit shocked that people have targetting Skodas to be honest.

I haven't worried about it b4 with a 1.4 8v........a relatively safe bet.

We perhaps are a safer area though - is it only riskier areas one should worry about ?

I know the immob and alarm are present....also planning to utilise GF's unused Stoplock Professional (if its any good) but thats just a temporary step, also wondering about stuff like Tracker etc on the costlier, but more serious security side.

Any suggestions kindly welcome and thanks in advance.

Also....what is the thinking behind the stickers that advertise such stuff as Tracker etc....I think its a bit dumb personally to advertise your security method to a wannabee thief.

Its a bit like having internet security on your website and saying "hello. This website is encrypted by RSA 128 keys etc etc please try and hack me...heres a clue where to start:"

Maybe that could explain people having it fitted....and then selling the stickers on ebay !!! Stickers dont protect your car, security does.

Surely the stickers are there to try and put a would be thief off stealing your car.

"Ooh looky, that Skoda has an alarm, immobiliser and trackers.... maybe I'd better off breaking into the Fiesta down the road that has none of these features."

Why would you bother? Anyone who can defeat the alarm/immobiliser is going to be able to rip out a Tracker, etc, etc. Tbh, it's a 12k car and I can't see it being that desirable compared to Scooby's, Evo's, BMW's, Merc's etc.......

Uh huh, sure thats the way I thought it, glad for your feedback. However one can't be too careful !

Maybe the Trackers stickers off eBay as a daft detterant ain't such a bad idea in comparison to doing nothing perhaps ? Or just a good reason for them to rip up the boot looking for the thing.

My only concern with fitting tracker stickers is that it won't stop someone nicking the car but if it does get nicked the interior will be ripped to shreds looking for it. :(

Would it not be better to take out a Gap Insurance for the first 3 years, less cost than Tacker etc , and if its Nicked you would get full value for a New Car to replace . Also would cover for any major accident write off

Woh. Thats the first time I have come across that term. Just reading it up.

However, since the VRS is currently on 0% (and I have the cash) technically, the definition on GAP seems to indicate it as a complete waste of time in this instance (if it was NOT on 0%, I would take great interest).

My interest in something like Tracker is that of an actual detterant, or if not that some kind of comeback to the thief involved at very least which is some concillation.

However I am quite happy with just "extra" security, it doesnt have to be Tracker particularly . Anybody found the physical wheel clamps etc of any use or just plain daft ?

Even on 0% interest , you would lose out after the first year as insurance will only pay for the book value which will include depreciation , therefore Gap Insurance would cover into year 2 and 3 to top up to the value of a New Car , most Comprehensive insurance policys cover the full car value in the First year only . If they want to steal it they will no matter what devices are used , strip it , trash it , or blow the engine as others have found .:(
