Steering wheel sways radically when going over speed bumps onced lowered

Featured Replies

hi all

wondering if anyone has experienced this problem when they've lowered their fabia. my last car (pug206) was lowered (35-45mm all round) and the ride was ok i guess, but it kinda messed up the steering. when it goes over road bumps or any sort of indentation on the road the steering wheel sways like mad. i understand that if you go over a speed bump or any sort of bump the steering wheel sways slightly, but my car did it over board. im wondering to those who have lowered their fabia experience this problem as i am a little put off in lowering my fabia. i dnont want the same thing to happen again.

cheers

No problems with mine. If you're lowering the car I would recomend you get the Eibach dampers to match aswell. I didn't and the ride is getting worse pretty quickly.

not had a problem with mine either , 25mm drop on Eibach springs and standard dampers

Done a few sets of Eibachs myself with no similar issues.

Worth getting the tracking etc done I reckon, something is not right there as I've had mine lowered for a very long time.

If you got your car lowered by 35mm to 45mm, then there not just Eibach springs. What did you have done when you were lowered? You would need 4 wheel laser alignment if you've gone for coilovers etc.

he hasn't lowered it yet, he's asking if anyone has issues, his issues were on his last car that he lowered.... he's worried it'll happen if he lowers the fabia...

*sharky is in clarification mode... anyone want a proof reader just let me know!

A good point :D - mine was a little out post lowering, it's well worth spending the relatively small amount of dosh on the 4WA, if nothing else it may save your tyre life :D

hi guys and girls

...at the same time i had my car lowered i also had new OZ alloys fitted. the cars original wheel size were 15" and i had 16" put in. im just wondering if the weight of the alloy wheel and low profile tyres caused this problem. the cars oem wheels were steel. as for the alignment thingy of the wheels, im not entirely sure that was the problem that caused this excessive sway of the steering wheel.

any how much appreciated with this feed back, please keep them coming.

Mine sometimes follows the camber of the road under braking, especially on downhills. Barely notice it really. I have regular 4 wheel alignments - pays for itself with better tyre wear in the long run.

the larger diameter wheels will have an effect on the steering feel , esp over speed bumps , if they have an offset which is hugely different from the manufacturers standard offset with the small steel wheels fitted .

i still say as others do that you will not have a problem with the steering on the Fabia when it is lowered
