Cleaned my Octy - swirl marks :(

Featured Replies

I finally found time to do the works on my Octavia a week ago.

Started with a wash with Jeff's Werkstatt Auto Body Wash - 2 bucket method

then a full clean with Meguiars Quik Clay

next was a polish using Jeff's Prime Carnauba

and finally protected with Poorboy's Nattys Paste Wax

Took me around 6 hours and I was knackered!

I was really pleased with the finish...and worryingly I found the smell of the Meguiars Quik Detailer spray and the Natty's paste wax really nice

Tried to take some photos but my phone isn't too hot when the light is fading.

Update:

The night after I did the detail on my Octy, I parked it in a supermarket car park, and upon returning I noticed that the bonnet was really bad on the front right hand quarter with swirl marks :(

So last Tuesday, I washed the car, and gave it a second coat of Nattys Paste Wax apart from the bonnet.

I then gave the bonnet 3 coats of AutoGlym Super Resin Polish by hand, and then a coat of Nattys on top, but the swirls are still there :(

I had a quick go at it with the buffer betwen coats 2 and 3 of the SRP but to be fair I do not have any decent pads and did not want to burn the paint so didn't push it!

After talking with a guy on ScottishVAG, he had a look at it on Wed night and thinks the marks are actually in the paint - the car has had a wee bit of bodywork done and it looks like they did not do a completely perfect job on the bonnet!

Don't get me wrong, it still looks really good most of the time, but when under lights or direct sunlight you can see the marks.

So it sounds like i'm stuck with them, but here are some more photos - phone camera still doesn't show the shine unfortunately!

Nice pics! Very clean! You'll only really reduce the swirls and marring with a porter cable as you need to remove a tiny layer of clearcoat, and even then you have to ask yourself is it worth it?

steven, if your really not sure i'd get ontop some of the guys on detailing world close to you and see if they'd be willing to help or offer any suggestions,

from the forecourt pic i would say that they should come out but as Irf says it involves removing a layer of paint. this wont do any ahrm as mine has been done more than once this year and still ok.

if i was a bit closer i'd pop by with my PC and have a go but its a bit of a trek.

Scott

Whereabouts are you? Your location entry doesn't really help! ;)
