Fabia re-map

Featured Replies

Had my Fabia for 2 years now and really want it chipped. Thinking of using superchips to do the work. Is it really worth getting done or is there risk of damaging the car.

Also having a nightmare trying to get a set of the mk1 octavia vrs alloys to chuck on the fabia. Can anyone help.

Cheers

Mark

you dont say which engine you have??

1.9 Tdi 130 Vrs

Stick with the big named companies like the ones who sponser the this site. Dont be tempted for a cheap remap. Your cars worth more than that.

All remaps tend to give around 160-175bhp at the fly depending on rollers and what the operator had for breakfast. They also gove around 280-300 ftlbs at 2K-2.5krpm.

Problem with remaps is the torque. The Dual Mass Flywheel is only rated to 280ish ftlbs so after a remap people report DMF vibration when accelerating hard at low revs.

Next week link is the clutch. Again its only rated at around 280ish ftlbs they can tend to slip depending on use. Someone I know sometime gets a little slip from changing at 4Krpm going from second to third as the revs drops to around 2.7K rpm resulting in to much torque for the clutch. Best bet is to let it rev a bit.

:iagree:

i wouldn't touch superchips with a barge pole for turbodiesel stuff

Thanks for the advice John.

Do you know if the fabia can take 17's or 18's without any problems?

17" wheels, are ok..... iirc that's what the ibiza cupra r has, and they are basically the same underneath. you have to be carefull with tyre sizes tho

Superchips warranty the work and the engine following a remap - none of the others do...

yeah but try and get anything out of them if it goes pear shaped!!! like getting blood from a stone!

Had the clutch replaced once already cos it was slipping. That was in standard spec.

Bit wary of getting it chipped but it's bloody tempting. Don't want to end up regretting it though.

The reason i looked at superchips was the fact that they have the warranty

SteVRs did you get your's done by superchips. If not who with

Superchips are not the only ones who warrenty there work.

We got a 130pd (golf mk4) too 222hp today although this was on a highly modded engine.

175hp is no problem on this car.

a few names for you to google are

1.) AMD

2.) Custom Code

3.) Revo

4.) Jabbasport

there are others around, but they all offer pretty much the same thing.

Dont believe it !

There are masses of differences on remaps on the market these days !

Was just going to say, there are maps that are very mild on the clutch by restricting torque peak but giving a bit more up top, there are very aggressive maps that are pushing the safe limits of the turbo, and stuff inbetween.

Then there are the 'totally custom' ones that are able to make use of mods such as hybrid turbo, FMIC, propane, etc etc etc.

If the maps were all the same, why are there custom and non-custom versions out there for a standard 'hardware' car? Because there is a difference.

That stated, there is a bit of a price difference too of course :)

I sent you an email last week regarding remapping. Asking if you are capable of limiting torque to stock 250ftlbs until 3Krpm but still give max bhp at the top end as I dont see the point of having all this toque if the DMF/Clutch cant take it.

The majority of remaps are a straight forward change of ECU map and are on the car until its put back to standard by the same tuner.

Other remaps like Revo and AmD have a switchable plug in unit that downloads the original programme when you want to. It seems to me that these are far preferable. I did get wind of one (APR from Awesome GTi) that is switchable via the cruise control. Very tasty piece of kit.

Then there are the plug in tuning boxes like Dragon (Digital)which are very good and of course removable. Other types (Found on eBay) are analogue resisters that plug in but these just 'fool' the ECU into believing that the air is very cold, the ECU responds by over-fueling, lots of smoke results. Also they put your ECU light on too.

Mine's not had a remap. It's just special.
