I believe if you carry on driving with a knackered clutch the flywheel is damaged as well

The car is an Octavia Tdi Elegance on a Nov 2000 plate.

There were no signs that the clutch was warn when driving the car, one minute it was fine, the next, no clutch. The flywheel caused the problem by disintegrated and damaged the clutch. The damage would have extended to the gear box if it had been driven any further.

It seems that the design of these dual flywheels is faulty. probably to ensure Skoda makes more money out of unsuspecting owners!!

yes i had a similar problem with mine warranty job thank god

Its not just vw cars as mercedes now have this design aswell as new fords, renault, bmw so it lookes like many other car owners will have to fork out hundreds of pounds more than expected.:thumbdwn:

only if you drive for a long-ish time with a knackered clutch can it damage the flywheel, its like driving 10 miles with a flat tyre then moaning that it has ruined the tyre.

One of my many problems with a brand new tdci 130 mondeo back in 2003 was a dual mass flywheel which went and took out the clutch :(. It was the flywheel itself that caused the problem. These dual mass flywheels do seem to be something of a weak point, and I do see a lot of cars in the future being scrapped before their time because of the expense of these parts :(

I'd rather have a bit more vibration and the old single mass thing.

I mean the XUD coped just fine with a single mass flywheel, so why can't newer cars?
