Anti roll bars

Featured Replies

I know this has been covered, but I am still a bit unclear.

My Fabia (52) has the common knocking noise coming from the front nearside.

Anti roll bars, I think. Do I need to change the whole bar or will just replaceing the bushes fix the problem.

It about

it might also be the shock absorber knocking

Could be; shock absorber mounting, lower wishbone bushes or front anti-roll bar bushes.

If it IS the front ARB then they only come as a complete ready to fit item (bar plus bushes), but at a reasonable cost of £45.70 plus VAT for a regular one or £51.29 + VAT for the vRS one (not sure which car you have). Skoda dealer time to fit is 1.1 hours. (66mins) @ £65 per hr for Le Car in NW London.

If you you have not got a vRS then this bar does fit and is a nice litte handling upgrade on a regular Fabia as the bar is fatter and therefore stiffer.

anti roll bar links could also cause the knock , have it checked out at a garage

I was quoted a price of £56 +vat for an anti roll bar today, not sure if that was a VRS one or not. I have a standard 100bhp Fabia. The dealer said they have fitted 100's of them. I was also told you can get the bushes seperate for about £5.

If I take the wheel off what I am I looking for?

Hate paying dealer prices.

Is that 100bhp as in 1.4 16v OR 100bhp as in 1.9TDi? My prices are a year old - inflation? I didn't know you could get the bushes separately; my dealer (Le Car) has told me complete bar & bushes ONLY.

tdi 100bhp, yes I was informed by the dealer in Dundee that bushes can be bought separately.

Are they easy to fix?

Has anyone had to do a complete overhaul? My front suspension knocks on both sides. Also feels like the shocks have had it. I'm gonna invest in some Koni FSDs I think, with eibach springs and a VRS arb. How much would it cost to replace the wishbones and drop links too? If its not that expensive I might as well do it all while its off, make it last another 100K. :D

the drop links are about £17 each iirc

bushes do wear but iirc the main problem with the roll bars is that the plastic collar next to the bush cracks, allowing the roll bar to move across in the bushes , check the collars before just ordering bushes

The knocking could be a number of thing as in the posts above. If its the bushes on the lower wishbone then complete unit is required but it won't braek the piggy bank. One of my cars, Y reg 1.4mpi, had to have this done to get through the MOT six weeks ago.

If you are looking at taking the opportunity to upgrade the suspension; be careful. Koni FSDs are designed for use with standard springs, lowered e.g. eibachs shouldn't be fitted as well. IF you want to go lower with the eibachs then they, eibach, do a set of shocks to complement, or you could just fit these shocks on their own. However, eibach springs plus stiff shocks could make everything all TOO stiff, particularly if your local roads are at all bumpy.

vRS ARB is a wise choice; you could also consider the JabbaSport REAR ARB; particularly useful with a TDi lump up front - I would suggest this as your first mod. It is chaeper than a set of shocks and you might be surprised with the beenfit to the standard setup.

There's been some debate about the FSDs working with eibachs, but I thought it was all sorted? ie either koni or eibach gave a press release saying they would work together very well.

I've already got a jabba rear arb. :D I was first in on the last group buy. Will hopefully have the wheels I want by christmas as well.

Yes I have heard about this plastic cover breaking. Is it possible to repair it? If not I think I will put a pair of VRS ARB's on my standard TDI.

Is it s garage job or could I do a diy?

not repairable , the plastic collar seems to shrink which makes it crack then usually falls off when the bar starts moving across in the bushes

i think it would be a garage job to fit it as it requires some of the suspension to be dropped down to fit it

bump. any more thoughts about the FSDs?
