Typing on a Adoble form, can it be done?

Featured Replies

I am wanting to fill out an application form for a job I really want. I downloaded it and it was one of those adolbe things where you can't type. I think they want you to print it off and write it by hand.

That is fine, apart from the fact that anything hand written by me is almost entirely unreadable be other people. If you can image it, worse than my typing!

Is there anyway I can copy it and fill it using word text boxes or something?

EDIT: NOT CALLED ADOLBE, IT IS ACROBAT!! PDF anyway.

Should I put my IT skills as poor :(

If the form was created so that fields could be edited printed but not saved then no problem. Except this sounds like that has not been created that way.

You could try selecting the whole thing (ctrl a) and copying (ctrl c) into a word or wordpad document (ctrl v) but the formatting may go do-lally depending on how complex the form is.

I guess they really want you to write it so they can judge what type of person you are.

Wot 'e said.

Thanks Mannyo. I tried, but it did not work really.

I really wish I didn't have to hand write it.

If you wanted to be really crafty, you can try and put text boxes in word, then using the ruler on word, and ruler in reality, move the boxes to where they need to be, to match up with the form gaps on the pdf document. Obviously then you'll have to print the apparently black word document onto the printed pdf form, and hope for the best.

The people who look at the form, will probably be aware of this, and anyone who attempts to use another way to type on to the forms, might be rejected anyway. If its pdf, I would print one out, roughly get in what you want to say, with editing where needed. Then re-print, and get the text in better, then do a third print, and go for the ultra neat copying of the second draft, onto a final draft to send in, :)

if your handwriting is bad, maybe you should become a doctor or a pharmacist!

Em, I have an idea but would need the original PDF to check it out. Is it something you can PM / attach / email?

On second thoughts, maybe not - don't know how appreciative they would be of hacking :P

You have to have the write version of Adobe and then the form needs to be editable.

Most Adobe files are read only.

I guess this is what Manny said....I couldn't be bothered to read it. :o

Adobe - derived from the Greek ' pain in the ****'

The problem with acrobat is that the idiots who make the forms either don't realise its not intended as an 'editing' suite or don't make the forms editable and so the average person can't do jack shiote with them.

the easiest way is If you have Adobe Photoshop you can open the pdf form directly into that and then add the necessary text exactly where you want [without faffing about with text boxes and rulers etc. by using the 'Text' function. When you have finished the form you simply re-save the [now filled in] pdf form directly into pdf format.

Agreed; you need a full copy of Acrobat or Photoshop to make the form editable.

Of course, if you just wanted to create a form people could type on some bits of but not edit, a password-protected Word document would normally fill the bill.

I am in the process of handwriting it.

Nick sent me a copy of the application form with the text editable (how I don't know) but I was finding the text boxes too tricky.

The only reason why I have trouble and writing is I literally have little control over my spelling and even order of words in sentences. I don't want to sound think, because I hope I am not. I was meant to use a computer or have someone to write my answers as I wrote them in my AS levels, but I did not want to be diffrent so turned down the chance.

I am not sure how this equates to job applications.

As far as I can tell, you are far from thick. From what you say here, I'm wondering whether or not anyone has ever done a proper assessment as to whether or not you are dyslexic though.
