Formating i-pod Hard Disk

Featured Replies

I have a 4th generation 30Gb Ipod Photo and want to know if it is possible to reformat the hard disk?. Reason I'm asking is that I had he bright idea of using a magnet as a holder in my car for it and of course the hard disk has gone into melt down mode although it will still play some tracks it ain't too happy about showing pictures. The disk reader is also making some very strange noises!.

Failing that I might buy a second hand one from ebay but need to know if it will sync all my stuff?.

Not sure about windoze.. but on the Mac with mine i just removed the partition on the ipod and then reconnected the ipod and let itunes sort it out :)

So at a guess I'd say you'd be able to do the same in windoze..

Good luck

How to reset iPod

Apple do something, however if you reformat on windows it will then be a FAT32 iPod.

get iTunes 7 for the apple website and install it.

connect the ipod and then in the summary select restore that will format the ipod for you

Mr Fish

My daughters IPOD was corrupted and I restored it on the Apple IPOD website, took about two minutes.

Please note that reset and restore are not the same. After the restore the IPOD was as it came from the factory (ie blank), but with the software updates.

Just noticed that the restore link is also included on the link included in Skodalover's post.

Good luck
