opening the boot ??? how ya doit ?

Featured Replies

Hi all, me again...sorry for so many questions but cant find answer to this in the forum.

My 2000 fabia SDI, there is a latch on the drivers right side to open the boot/tail gate, there is also a touch pad on the tail gate up where the number plate is, should you touch this and the boot opens because i can only open the rear by the lever/latch on the drivers side right.........

What should i check for to rectify this....

Thanks Kevin

only found this out yesterday ???

maybe the microswitch has come unplugged, mine did!

What trim level's the car? If you have a Classic without remote central locking, I believe the boot can only be opened with the lever you mention. Could be wrong there, though...

Does the vRS have a boot release in the cabin?

Does the vRS have a boot release in the cabin?

No, but you get one on the keyfob instead

dont know, but my elegance one does, it also has a button on the keyfob too

The trim is indeed a classic, there is a rubber type thingy in place on the tail gate, i have purchased a universal central locking kit ( should be here this week ) so i presume i will have to buy the boot release kit as well maybe.

So if it only opens by the latch release then what ya do if that fails......??

I presume you can upgrade the tail gate to the central locking scheme ???

Cheers, kevin

Don't really know how the electronics / wiring will work, but if you can get it to the state of my wife's Comfort, unlocking the doors with the keyfob will also unlock (but not open) the boot. You can then open the boot using the push pad. It might be that everything's there save the actual ECU, in which case once you plug yours in, you'll be sorted?

Perhaps the answer lies in what happens at the moment when you lock / unlock the car with the keys. Is it one turn for the driver's door and then another one for all the other doors, or do all the doors open at once? All I'm thinking is that maybe seeing if you can open the boot after unlocking all the doors will provide the answer?

Another thing to bear in mind is that the boot on cars with remote central locking locks when you drive off, and won't unlock until you've either turned off the ignition or opened one of the doors. Maybe that's what stopping you opening the boot from the outside...?

Best thing's probably just to "suck it and see" TBH... :o

i think the switch on the rubber pad has either gone faulty or as TeflonTom says is disconnected , if there has been a water leak in the hatchback ,usually from the washer pipe ,it can/will get on the switch and corrodes it and the wiring

If both the electrics & the cable release should fail, the tailgate can be opened from the inside by prising off the small plastic cover on the inside rear panel trim and operating the small lever. Mind you this is after you have folded down the rear seat & emptied enough out the boot to get to the thing. Not for everyday use but good to know it's there

Regards

Rob.

Well it doesnt have central locking, if i unlock the drivers side then only that door opens, i have to reach inside and pull the door lever to open the rear door.

As i say i should be getting very soon ( when its delivered) a universal central locking kit to fit so will check the boot locking mechanism before fitting, might be able to connect up the c/l kit if i buy the adapter/actuator for the boot'

i find it strange that you cant open the boot after the car has stopped and engine off by the touch pad as standared on a classic model, if so then that is a cheap cut back on the car ???????

if you are in the car then use the lever, out of the car after shopping use the touch pad, well if you have to unlock the car then pull the lever to open the tail gate then that is a very bad idea cos ya shopping could roll down the car park in the trolly and hit a car ?????

oh well will c when i get me c/l kit.

Thanks Kevin

I had a 1.2 classic as a courtesy car a couple of months back. As is usual with these cars, there was next to naff all fuel in it, and when I went to open the fuel cap release (as it is on the VRS) the boot opened. When I took it back and asked the dealer, it transpires that if there is no central locking on the car then that is the only way to open the boot. It seemed quite crap to me.

I confirm what Valley VRS says. I have a 2000 SDi classic and the only way to open the tailgate is via the lever in drivers doorway.

Well it doesnt have central locking, if i unlock the drivers side then only that door opens, i have to reach inside and pull the door lever to open the rear door.

I find this strange because if you were to enable the child locks then you wouldn't be able to open the door at all........

This is an anti car jacking thing. On my vRS the boot won't open unless you unlock the whole car (by pressing the unlock button twice on the key fob or the unlock button near the lecky window switches on the drivers door). If the car is locked OR if only the drivers door is unlocked, it will only open from the key fob button.
