Fault code 17705 aagin

Featured Replies

Hi all

Yes I have this infamous pressure drop fault code, and Skoda want £140 to fix it. I have searched this forum on the topic and see that is is covered numerous times. My question is that I cannt notice any change in performance, acceleration etc etc, so i'm wondering if I can justify £140 for getting it done. Would there be any long term damage if this isn't rectified.

Cheers in advance:thumbup:

What work do they want to do to justify the £140 ?

Can they guarantee the work will fix the problem, there seem to be quiet a few reasons for this code, ranging from dodgy DV to leaking pipe joints. Also whats the position if you spend the money and the fault isnt cured.

If I do get the work done and its not fixed, i'll sit there in the showroom til it IS fixed, and wont be paying any more either.

I bet they're going to change the diverter valve (DV) and the intercooler hose that had the seal changed.

Both of these are easy DIY jobs and the parts cost less than £50 for the two.

Better hope your dealer is not the same as mine then... (and if it is, take a flask of coffee and a sleeping bag).

Yep, its *the* infamous pipe and the DV. Those prices seem reasonable.

Changing the DV is easy, just remove the plasitc engine cover and its s straight swap. Make sur eyou have some suitable jubilee clips though as the OEM clips are single use only.

Take a look at http://www.briskoda.net/forums/octavia/where-pipe/51329/ for the pipe info - that thread has all you need.

I'll bet that the DV is fine too - so just change the hose to start with ;) They only want to change the DV because thats what that fault code tells them to change.

Cheers Goochie, I'll get the parts ordered then, the work seems easy enough, even for an amateur like me!

Any pics of the DV, so i know what it looks like under the engine cover?

Haha Skoda said they'd have the car about half a day, what a load of tosh!!

As you look at the engine, the DV is located under the back right corner of the plastic engine cover. It is about 2" (5cm) round and has 3 pipes going to/from it (2 about 1" the other 1/4").

I dont have a pcture but I'm sure someone has.

When you have the new part in your hand you'll spot it easily.

How many miles has the car done? Mine was still on the original DV at 75k

Its on 50 something thousand miles, on a 51 plate vRS, and thanks once again!

If you have the "fault code" printout sheet, whopp it down to the Skoda lads in Halfway St. Nice bunch, see what they have to say.

just a note you will still have to pay for the code to be cleared from the fault memory

You dont, actually, a 17705 has no affect on the performance of the engine and doesnt bring up the CEL - may as well waint until the next scheduled service to have it reset.

And my dealer would clear the code for nothing, but as said you dont need to clear that particular code, a turn off the ignition and turn on again resets the car but leaves the code. The car will drive normally however.

I can get the code cleared by a mate with VAGCOM, so will just order the parts in and DIY it. Cheers all!

The reason I started using Motorline in Dartford was because I wasn't impressed with the service down at Halfway Street. Friendly, yes, but thats about it. Judging by this story though, all the dealers are the same, i.e, just after our money, but thats just my opinion, and not relevant to this thread. So thats all i'll say on the matter.
