PD140 turbo onto PD130? Is it Possible & Worthwhile?

Featured Replies

I have been offered a nearly new 140 PD turbo. Will it fir my fabia vRS or is the 2la different exhaust manifold?

Also, will it make any difference with a custom remap or is it a very similar turbo to what i have already?

short answer, no and no.

Aren't the 140's smaller anyway? (EU regulations)

yes I thought that too - the extra capicity of the 2.0 and the extra 8vs would give it enough extra gain to need a smaller turbo imho. It would also explain why it is less laggy and revier too.

size of turbo i'd say has no affect on how revvy an engine is. being revvy is affected by how well the engine flows and its compression ratio along with the weight of its internals mainly i'd say. a higher compression ratio engine will rev freeier and quicker and allow a turbo to spool quicker as a result.

as far as turbo's go in relation to revvyness (if that's even a real word:rolleyes: ) the size and the a/r ratio of the exhaust turbine plays a huge part in this, generally speaking the lower the a/r ratio the more free revving it is but the more laggy it is, when choosing a turbo they dont just slap on the biggest and bestest turbo they can find, they have to be carefully matched to the size of the engine to get the right blend of boost/exhaust flow/lag.

and as for the the 8v versus 16v thing, a rough rule of thumb is that because the 16v engine has more valve area than an 8v unit you can use shorter duration cams to get the same amount of port flow hence the wider power band

and the 1.9 versus 2.0 thing is a purely a matter of stroke lengths, theoretically the engine with the longest stroke can produce more torque because it has more leverage over the crankshaft

these principle apply to both petrol and diesel engines.
