Metal sleeve for headunit?

Featured Replies

When fitting my Woodstock 54 to my 01 Fabia, I find that the metal sleeve I am using will not grip in the dash board.

I notice that the OEM unit did not need a sleeve.

Are there differnt makes of sleeve or are they all the same?

Currently you can pull my stereo right out with out much trouble.

I thought they were standard Din?

Had no issues with my Woodstock or the 5 disc changer under it (I'll sell you that though :D )

You need to bend the clips out on the cage so it will grip onto the dash.

The cage is not needed with the factory headunit because it basically already has the necessary clips on the hu itself. The aftermarket hu is slightly smaller in the external case to allow for the cage to be inserted into the dash, in that way they can allow fitting to more cars than just a fabia/octavia etc.

:iagree:

stick the cage in the slot on its own and push out as many of the little triangular tabs as possible so that the cage grips into the dash then plug the unit in and push it back until it clips into place :)

if it won't push all the way back its because the cables behind have got caught up, remove the little pocket thing below the stereo by pulling on it and stick your hand under the stereo and hold the cables out of the way :)

I thought so, I have been bending the clips out but they do not seem to have any thing to grip on to. I will see how it goes.

Thanks.

I had the same trouble, and a theif could easily breathe in to extract the radio! :D What I did was make sure the clips were as bent as possible and it stays in better now, however if a tea leaf really wanted it they could still give it a tug and have it in a flash, so tomorrow Im going to see if there is any better way around this (involving drilling holes for the clips to bend into or screwing the cage in).

Ill update tomorrow! (If I dont PM me as I have a naff memory!:D )
