has avuone changed his engine before

Featured Replies

hi guy is it possible to change a fabia engine cause mine is giving lots of probleme.

for exemple a guy told me that it's possible to swich a fabia engine with a WV Golf's engine. Do you guys have any precise infos on this topic

Cause my big probleme is that i have a fabia 1.4 that has no engine power at all

waiting for you responses,

regards to all

Yep, the 2.0 would slot straight in for sure.

i wouldn't be so quick to say that tom, remember jason changed 1 fabia engine for another fabia engine and how much work and parts were needed for that? so changing the engine for one from a different car could well be far more difficult.

1.8 t;) its the only way it will be worth it! maybe part ex your fabia for another one? for the same price you would pay for the repairs...

so you guys are saying that it's not realy possible ?

Ok ok, fair point bengie.

Thinking about it, the 1.4 8v is quite a different engine to anything else in the range, so unless you are a dab hand with electronics and the likes, I'd say no.

MAF ? Dont even know what it mean's

Explain please

has that engine got a MAF?

nope! they have a MAP sensor instead:)

I'd be tempted to buy a car with a larger engine TBH.

Get rid of the car, and get a more powerful one. :)

Unless, like me, you wanted to do an engine swap from a hobby / inquisitive / challenge type feel?

Your 3 main options are:

1) Take it to a garage/dealer and get them to diagnose/repair the fault (recommended), atleast you'll know the precise fault/cost of repair and whether it's economical to do or not & it may only be a small part that is malfunctioning/broke as opposed to the entire engine...

2) Get a new car - Might be worth considering after option 1 has been diagnosed if the problems are just too expensive to fix, but the hassle of getting rid of your car will be another thing to take into account - no private buyer will take it by the sounds of it unless it's repaired, so your only option is to trade it in but you may get nowhere near what the current market value is.

3) Swithing the engine aka what Jason did with his 1.9TDi not only takes ages, but costs a fortune and although he did change it for a PD130 vRS engine he also needed new drivetrain, suspension, wiring looms, dashpod, brakes etc - fair enough you probably won't need to do all of this, but it's not a straight swap. I would only recommend doing this if you were prepared to have a different method of transport for several months and lots of money. The only time it'd be worth considering is if you were putting a 1.8T engine in IMO, but then you'd run into many of the issues Jason experienced above. If your doing a straight swap for an indentical engine, the work needed maybe reduced however I would still rather take option 1 or 2 before doing option 3 for all the above reasons & whats to say the new engine you put in will be more reliable?

Hope this helps.

Chris.

How much of a bugger was it going from a PD100 to a PD130? I'd be lying if I said the thought of a VRS conversion hadn't crossed my mind. (I would have bought a VRS but I wanted a Kombi. ) and I guess turning a Kombi into a VRS is easier than turning a VRS into a Kombi. I've done a few engine swaps in polos before, but nothing of what you'd call a modern engine.

A BUGGER!!!!

Basically I had the engine & box - that goes in fine - Did the removal and refit in less than a day. ;) But it took 3 months to get it running thanks to all the other things found. Needed to replace:-

ALL the wiring looms (for ECU and dashpod)

Outer hubs

driveshafts

suspension console

whole N75 system

Must be more. Been over a year since the conversion, and I'm really enjoying driving around in my "vRS" which in reality is still a pd100, but it's now living it's life as the donot car that all the bits came from. :)

Damn! I was hoping it would just be a case of swapping the engine, box, driveshafts, hubs and the ECU.

Does it make a difference if you have an elegance? Mines got ASR, EDL and all that jazz already.

I suppose the alternative (and its not a bad alternative I suppose) is a remap. But it just wont feel the same. :(

By the way, did you ever consider changing just the engine, gearbox, turbo, injectors etc (ie everything that was mechanically different) and just getting the PD100 ECU remapped?

Basically if your engine is running like a t*rd and was running fine before ther eis a good chance a sensor has gone funny or something is blocked, like the fuel filter or an injector etc etc.

All fixable for a lot less than an engine swap.
