Octavia Headlights

Featured Replies

The headlights have stopped working on dipped beam on my 19998 Octavia.

I think this is unusual as the are fused seperately - according to the owners hand book one of the fuses also controls the headlight leveling system which seems to work fine - both fuses look good too.

I suspect it may be the switch itself but as it's dark now I'm unable to work on the car so I'm hoping someone can shed some light (hahaha) on this problem for me tonight so I can fix it tomorrow and get home from work safely.

Have you checked the Bulbs?

No I haven't checked the lamps themselves - it would be a bit odd that both dip beams would go together and the mains are OK. Still I will have a look tomorrow morning

Ahh what it is, is that you have somehow jumped through space time and the light from your bulbs can't travel fast enought to reach you in the next few weeks.

As a serious suggestion however, the bulbs in your car are H4, which contain both the full and dipped beam. If one works there is a good change the other does.

Since H4 bulbs are very cheap I would change these first and see if this fixes your problem. I have had dipped beams go within minutes of each other.

If not check for wires comming away behind the light switch, which i have seen cases where a loose wire has taken out one side or the other.

also, it COULD be the indicator stalk unit that has failed. not as cheap as replacing a bulb unfortunately.

I had this on my 54 reg, took it straight around to stealers as I thought a relay or switch had failed, turned out it WAS the bulbs that had failed almost simultaneously!!!, really strange:confused:
