Fabia Head Unit/CD Player/CD Changer

Featured Replies

Ok guys,

The wife has decided that she woud like a CD player for her fabia. She has suggested she might like a CD changer as she commutes for an hour and a half each way but says a single slot in dash unit would do.

She currently has a 2001 Y reg Comfort estate with an MS402 (I think) headunit. Can this operate a changer (I think probably not) but if so which changers?.

Otherwise what other OE headunits will fit (say from an elegance or from an Octavia) and what are the changer options.

Or, what head units would people recommend.

All bearing in mind the car has 105,000mls on the clock and sometimes gets left in out of the way places so I'm not looking to spend a fortune or change speakers.

OEM changer fits under the passanger seat. These can be got on eBay for reasonable money. There is a complete fitting kit from the dealers for £50 which includes the cable.

According to the manual the 402 has the MINI ISO connector for a CD changer but it's unclear whether it will control a CD changer. Have you got the owners manual?

Wouldnt it be cheaper to buy a cheap MP3 head unit from argos or halfords. you can hold up to 10 albums on one disc.

Yep possibly but that depends on whether she wants to keep the OEM look or not.

The MS402 radio/cassette HU will not (repeat NOT) take a CD changer.

Sorry.

It has the correct socket in the back, but all the pins except the two for the phone are missing. I know this as I was going to swap the Symphony HU in mine (that has a CD changer) for the MS402 in my wife's so we could both play CDs and I could get out my old C90s with Essential Mixes taped off the radio to play in the car. Didn't happen.

We ended up getting another Symphony HU off ebay, but there might be someone on here selling theirs if you ask around... There is a Skoda radio/cassette that'll take a CD changer (MS502, I think) but they're like hen's teeth...

Thanks for the clarification... so the way forward is Symphony head unit or aftermarket headunit and aerial amp, both with changer if required.

On that basis I'll research a bit of shopping!
